my insurance document states i can drive any other vehicle thrid party cover only aslong as the vehicle isnt registered to me, part of a hire purchase/lease agreement, basically a car i pay no insurance on.
legally, to me, that means i can drive any car that is not in my name, wether it is insured by anyone or not, just as long as its road legal.
correct?

so aslong as the owner gives me permission, it doesnt need to be insured by anyone else at all? as my policy covers me to drive it?
sounds utter rubbish to me, as i could buy a ferari, register it to me mam, never insure it, and then drive it on a £167 a year policy on a cavalier

I think the car would have to be insured by the owner.
I see what you mean about how they have worded it though.

it says nowhere on the document it has to be, as its my policy that is insuring me to drive it. as long as it has road tax and mot, and isnt in my name, im covered?

It seems very odd but if thats what it says then fair enough, seems like a decent company. May i ask who you are insured with?

I get your drift, does sound a bit odd doesn't it? Mind you, the 3rd party only bit would make you think twice aboout doing it long term with a Ferrari
Saw one of those Traffic Police programmes a while back, they pulled a car as it showed as having no Insurance registered? The bloke driving it got off because his own insurance had this same clause and therefore covered him.

i just dont agree with it, and i cant see how it covers a car that has no insurance on it basically.
so what about the ferari, its covered, admitedly 3party only, but still its legal isnt it?

It needs to be insured & owned by someone else, i.e. You borrow your old mans car ( which is taxed, mot'd & insured by him ) for the day.
If you have an accident while in control of it your insured for 3rd parties only.

Mine says i can drive any car provided:
The car does not belong to me
The car is not hired to me under a hire purchase agreement
The car is not leased to me under a lease agreement
I am aged 25 or above
The car is being used in the UK

yes i am sure thats the case, but my mat insists it isnt as it doesnt state it on the document.
i do not want to drive the car back unless i am covered. ive got far too many year no claims and a clean license incase it isnt correct.

My policy allows me to drive another car 3rd party but, all it states is that the car cannot be registered in my name. Doesn't mention insured by an other. I went with my brother to collect his new car and drove his old car back with him driving new one. Assumed I was covered by this clause

i dont see why it would matter if the car is insured or not, by someone else..
if you have a crash, it isn't getting repaired, due you you being insured on it 3rd party only..

You wont be covered, but if you did hit someone and not even 3rd party cover is available then you are screwed!!

yes, but what happens to the car you crash into? this is what im bothered about. i strongly feel that this isnt legal at all, and i know someone that drives around using this as his cover all day long, car isnt insured by anyone

easy thing, just phone insurance and ask...
or just get 1-day insurance for it to do drive it back, just get your mate to pay for it, as it wil be his car
