Can someone please advise me on this matter, few months ago I was stupid enough to let a mate drive my car and he'd lied to me, turns out he only had a provisional license and no insurance. He was pulled over and had a producer, etc. etc. The police have come to my house regarding the matter and i've told them that he lied to me and told me he had insurance, etc. I know I'm in the wrong for not checking up and asking to see his documents. The police officer said they would be sending court summons through the mail, so what am i looking at? A fine, or points? Or Both?

Thanks.

I would expect your mate to be round when police came and begging to take the rap and explaining how he lied...... if not then but in court

if he has lied he can get prosecuted with theft as he took your car under false pretense

However you need to prove this otherwise you will get prosecuted for letting him driive your car knowing he was not insured (even though this is not the case)

I agree I was a tit for letting him drive, he has a Fiesta which he drives it all the time without insurance or a full license so I presumed he'd passed. but i found out he's just having lessons in it. I'm really pissed off about it and gutted. Lol @ the person saying prison sentance it'll only be in magistrates so i'm guessing fine/points anyway, just wondered if anyone had been in this position before. I'll be getting that badger of a 'mate' to pay the fine, but the points i may get will be a bit of a bitch

heard of someone getting points on their licence for letting someone un-insured to drive his car, because you are the registered owner and you allowed this without knowing that everything was legal

To Cause or Permit someone to drive gets dealt with the same as if you were driving so you are looking at 6 points and £200 fine
