hrm...if you can produce in 7 days then no.
But working out why you was driving without an MOT and not knowing you didn't have one is just abit weird

Not if it passes and you can produce.
If it fails and you don't have time to repair, I'd presume you'd have to SORN it etc.
Don't quote me on that though.
But that is what annoys me about the MOT thing. Insurance send your reminders as a business thing, TAX reminders are sent, but MOT's aren't, which can catch a lot of people out, who don't think they're driving illegally and it's a genuine mistake i.e. you Stavs.

Yes.
You need to show you had an MOT at the time/date you was pulled over!
Thats like not having TAX or insurance then getting pulled over and then going to buy it.
You are in trouble.

If the police man could tell that you've not got an MOT by their numerplate recognition stuff in the cars, then I should imagine you'll have to produce an MOT Pass Certificate AFTER the date of the producer, but within 7 days.
All I was saying, is that if your car fails the MOT and the problem won't get fixed within 7 days, you'll have to SORN it. Take the SORN notification to the police station, to say it doesn't matter that you don't have an MOT.

Depends on how switched on the front office staff are when you produce. If you get it MOT'd this week and it passes you might find that they don't check the date on the certificate.

But surely if the police have asked him to produce an MOT certificate in 7 days, they know he doesn't have one?!

PNC will show that the vehicle doesn't have an MOT but it's not always 100% accurate. Basically you are relying on human error when the driving docs are produced.

I agree, although I get one from my local garage, and local dealer, depending on where I've been.

the thing is they could know you dont have an mot and if you get one done and back dated it could get the mot place in trouble.but if you get one done and dated after your producer date that would be incriminating your self and proving you didnt have one at the time.also producers are all done on computer now.i woul dread up on the law before you go and do anything

You can't get MOT's backdated these days - all automated now through a central computer network to stop dodgy MOT's and stuff (to an extent anyway!).
As to what ever clown suggested SORNing the car

You sure about that? I assumed you might be able to get them put forward (i.e to get 13 months MOT if you take it early), but can't see any reaosn for needing to back date it - you'd loose out, and it just makes it easier for people to fiddle MOT's
