i would disagree with the massive weigthloss on the tailgate. the bare tailgate is dead light, if its still to heavy hollow it out abit. panel class panels are shit for road use...

I was taking the piss there. But on a serious note. Take the glass out of the tailgate and I can garuntee you it weighs absolutely fuck all.

i know for a fact they dont weigh much bare.
for the minimal weight loss, the cracking and poor fitment and hassle to paint isnt worth it imo...
the blue car looks to be in way to nice a condition to start putting that shit onto.
esp the bonnet will chip and crack like crazy with stonechips. wont trust the hinge blocks on them due to cracking/ breaking. fitment will need alot of work to look half decent. not worth it imo

They also flex and bow under speed, not to mention the fact that after a while they will droop.

mine is very light with the polycarb windows in, my carbon bonnet weighs a lot less than the standard one tho.

I ve said it once I will say it again a fibre glass tail gate weighs about half the weight of a stripped boot lid

Definately decent savings to be had from changing to FG, the finish will be sheeite tho.
And the flex at speed is comical if a little scary!

thanks for the comments lads, we work on cars with FG panels all the time, but after fitting a corsa bootlid the other day I realised how stupidly heavy standard ones are!
carbon bonnet may be an idea, will have to paint it though.

I definately think the panels are worth it! TBH you car is not for show dave so who gives a fuck if it looks shit!
My mate has a mini shell in FG and you can pick the hole thing up!

poly carb rear window, and grind some unnessecary metal away and a carbon bonnet will do you good, then polycarb windows all round.
expect the glass makes for a huge amount of weight!

hassle to paint as in it needs to be baked at around 30degrees before anything to let any air bubbles open so it wont in the sunlight. then it needs them filled and then prepped as usual for primer/paint etc
will have sections with gelcoat missing and all sorts. nitemare.
then the itch from using it
( i used to work in a f/glass bodyshop coachbuilding hearses and limos)
it wont drop thru time ed
