If so, what did you do or say?

One of my mates has been cought speeding by a Tuevelo Camera doing 48 in a 40 (his speedo doesn't work).

He already has 3 points and has been driving less than 2 years by 1 month.

He is starting a new job (if he gets it) in 2 weeks. But if he gets banned, he won't get the job.

Any help will be much appreciated

I let the nice police man say what he had to say and never argued.

even though i knew i was right and that i was full well doing 40 in a 40 zone.

but let him think he was right and he was all ok about it

if id have been caught and not let off in those circumstances id of been a bit annoyed anyways, but still let him have his say first

Edit: he thought i was doing 40 in a 30

Never caught speeding but been in plenty of peoples cars who have.

And im sorry to be the bearer of bad news butunless you talk your way out of it there anbd then your mates fucked.
If he goes to court and questions it in anyway, they say your *something* her majestys police force or some pish.

My mate got caught doing 36 in a 30 an tried to say its was about 30mph when he went to court. They asked if he thought the officers were lying, he said 'no, just dont think they are accurate"

3 points went to 6.

60 fine went to 150.

MAY get offered a speed awareness course if he is lucky and the area does them.

Other than that he has fuck all chance other than to take the ban, dont tell the job and try to cope without a car until he can resit his test.

the other didnt get caught then, as 54 and 56 in 30 zones are both serious speeding offences!

I got 'caught' doing 104 on a dual carriage way, even though I was in my 1.3 Nova

I sat in the police car, listened to what he said, didn't argue, he said he couldn't prove how fast I was going as he was alone and it wasn't a camera car, and let me go, telling me to watch my speed.

If he got caught on camera, he's got no chance TBH.

Gutted for him but if he had a valid speed measuring device in the veichle then his career in 'Bolt-on' kits wouldnt have had to go further.

I know it wasnt a cop car, If HE (your mate) had something that could measure his speed properly then he wouldnt be in this mess, you wouldnt have to post this, i wouldnt have to reply and i could get on with pulling my root over www.dr-do-me-a-little.com.

He works in Halfords ffs, couldnt he have bought Sat Nav with a speedo read GPS.

well , technically looking at this from another point of view if the points are applied to your license after you are convicted THEN

if he appeals and makes the process drag on for over one month considering you have upto 14 days for the ticket to arrive then he will be ok as he will be over two years

Fuck , didnt even notice that he has a month.

Yeah, appeal for sure. If he appeals it must go back to the same judge and depending on the court , Its 3-4 weeks before that judge is in that court again.

Happened to me when i got done for dangerous driving, When they asked if i knew what i was being charged with, i said 'i guess so, i cant afford legal advice so i'll have to take what i get'.
Because you deserve a fair chance in court, they gave me a month to get legal represent tation , All in all, took 3 months to get sentenced. But like has been said, its once the dvla apply the points, thats when you get revoked/banned/resit etc.

AND even better, dont know about courts in England, but up here the licenses are sent out once every two weeks, just so they send a batch at a time.

To cut it short, Plead guilty, if they ask why, Say you have had second thoughts about doing it on your own and really dont want to risk losing your job so would like time to find Legal Rep.

Also, I bet you all a tenner each he doesnt even get the letter through for a month.

Take it from me, iv done alot of stupi stuff while driving, And been caught every time :-(

To avoid being banned for totting up you will need to be able to convince the court that there are "mitigating circumstances". This means that you will have to show that a disqualification would cause exceptional hardship. The loss of your job could be considered to be exceptional hardship. As could the loss of employment for others dependant on you, or hardship to members of his family.
