My mate's just bought a 306 and it feels so much bigger and much more solid than a Corsa, I'm selling mine in hope of finding a nice MK3 Golf but I'm toying with the idea of a 306.

I'm not bothered about speed in the slightest, just want reliablity which I feel I wont get with the 306, however the Golf will be older..

Opinions?

Really tidy Mk2 with mk3 dash

I've always like MK3's though especially the colour concepts and the vr6 highlines

Get a mk2 golf, Don't know what your budget is but you can pick up some fantastic examples of them fairly cheap. If you want reliability then a Peugeot will be a step back from the corsa!

Would love an MK2 Golf.. just weary of buying something that old!

No specific model Robin, just whatever is about at the time I come to buy. I just want something I don't have to plough loads of money into - just something reliable that I can slam with nice wheels.

Unless you can get a reliable 306 I'd go with the golf.

Had one as my first car which i got around 130000k and i run it all the way to around 160000 and all i had to replace was the clutch timing belt (precautionary) and water pump. Clutch and water pump were the originals too

Talking about the golf there yeah? That's what's pushing me towards them, so reliable and cheap to run from what I've heard. Do they feel pretty solid or..?

Can anyone suggest anything other than those two?

Just cruising the net and getting ideas.

I've just bought a 306 DTurbo, a LOTof car for the money..

It has 17" Tooras, new suspension, new axle, few other bits and bobs... all for £950...

Much prefer driving it to the corsa, apart from the fact it feels like a snail.. lol.

Hate Mk3 golfs but a Mk2 would be a good choice..

Try and get some test drives in the golf and 306's and try to compare the similar models and see which one you prefer

My brother had a mk2 golf gti 8v for a while, felt solid and went quite well, i wanted a mk2 gti for my run around as they are soooo reliable, but couldn't find a good one that fitted the budget, my bro's mate has a 1.6 driver which he has had since he was 20, (now 26) and he uses it as an everyday car, it has never had anything major go wrong with it, it's in a very rare blue colour and is still looking fantastic on bbs split rims.

That MK2 GTi looks nice Steve, bloody cheap too.. Have to keep in mind though that I'm only 17, so I can't get anything that'll be too hectic on insurance! I'd prefer to try and find something in the 90k miles. I really don't want to have to put money into it at all.
