Grandad went to the docs today and got sent to hospital...
Got heart failure, had it months, but his doctor didn't tell him... he's had a heart attack at some point but never knew...
He went in a few month back for an op on his kidneys for cancer... that's not even in his medical records... they have no record of him ever been diagnosed with cancer at all
So now they don't know wether it's his heart causing the fluid to build up all over his body or his kidneys...
The hole system is just fucking shocking!!

Bupa I can get appointment to see Dr Mee within a day
NHS it takes 6 weeks to get an apointment to see Dr Mee

trust me, if the family had enough money he'd be under private care... unfortunatly we don't... so just need to have faith in the shittest system on earth

Antz - The NHS dont seem to be helping anyone at the moment, I still believe that my dad would still be alive if they pulled their finger out and sorted out their systems it is a joke  If I was you I would look into the matter yourself, I had no idea my dad went into hospital in feb and died a month later he only went in because he had a bad chest and was losing weight, they dont seem to do enough these days and its about time something was done about it.

My family use the NHS for A&E, GP's, but if we need something more specialist then we use private cover as its so much quicker. I had to see a dermatologist and the wait on the NHS was over 2 months, got an appointment at a private hospital within a few days

I still believe the NHS is the best option. The number of operations that are done through companies like BUPA that go wrong is shocking, and what happens when the operation goes wrong? The patient gets taken to an NHS hospital to see an NHS surgeon. Private health care is a joke IMO

I must admit i was surprised to see how much my private health care cost, dont know if that's because it's a company or not but it really wasn't a lot at all.

NHS will always be a sham as its publicly funded.
My mum is a staff manager within the NHS and she does 3 peoples jobs, but because she has 'proven' that she can do the job of 3 people they are refusing to provide her with a secretary, and she is too nice to refuse to do certain things that she shouldnt be doing anyway

I was set to have an operation with Bupa, quite a serious one which if it went wrong could result in death, and when I saw the bloke that was going to do the operation my confidence was knocked.
Don't like Bupa TBH.

People need to put their foot down with this though as it causes heartache for familys seeing their own family not been cared for properly really annoys me as I have been through it. I can see the point though there just arnt enough staff and the pay is crap.

My dad had a heart valve replacement couple of years back, got to be on warfarin for the rest of his life. Couple of weeks after his operation he went for a check up, doctor said we've prescribed you the wrong dose of warfarin, your on the verge of having a stroke and sent him home..
Came up not feeling to well so went to bed, unbeknown to him he was having a heart attack at the time.

The thing is, for all these bad stories, there are hundereds of good ones.
The amount of people they see, they're bound to miss things, make mistakes, it's the same as any other company.
You only ever hear the bad stuff though, no-one ever praises them.

I will praise them..
Last Wednesday morning, my dad couldnt breathe, we thought he was just coughing but he was actually screaming 'Help', we all went down to see what was happening, and he was choking on his own flem, he'd had tonsilitus the week before and was on certain medication that had made all the mucus start going really thick and it was covering his wind pipe...
Rung an ambulance, and they where here within minutes, big thumbs to them, as they said if it had been five minutes later he would have died...
My family have had both good and bad experiences with the NHS although more bad than better... But then again someone seems to be in hospital every month

Possibly right but everyone has their own way of looking at things its happened to me twice now I have lost 2 people who I was very close to in the space of 6 months all down to the NHS not doing their job properly.

My nan was in hospital with Meningitis, she was unconscious for 2 weeks, whilst she was on intensive care she started to recover and even got as far as sitting in a chair looking at you and smiling, now because of this improvement they moved her to a general ward, DAYS after they did this she suddenly went downhill, i swear it was down to this and/ir the conditions care on the general ward, had they left her in intensive care im sure she wouldve recovered to some degree enough to go home

I agree, it's down to personal experience.
My dad died from cancer 4 years ago, the NHS went out of their way to do everything they could, they diagnosed it the first appointment he made (although it was too late as he fannied about too long not going to see the doctor) then the NHS did all the chemotherapy stuff, home visits EVERY day, they even put things in the house to help him out, like grab rails and stuff.
I can't fault them at all TBH, but like you say, everyone sees it differently.
Anyway, Antz, if you feel they aren't doing all they could, kick up a fuss, but I'm sure they aren't messing about.

Exact same thing happened to my nan! Was near enough ready to come home when she was intensive care but stuck her back in a ward and a week later she died, all her organs started failing nothing they could do apparantly

well i broke my collarbone (from my crash in hospital)
as it didnt show up on xray...
xactly they did their best for me. and at times i felt like death and looked aswell.

I do see your point the only reason why I am like this, is from speaking to my dad before he died, basically he had a op at broadgreen hospital in liverpool which they should not have done untill he was strong enough, the surgeon told us the night he had it that we had to go there asap as he was not good from the op then he admitted that he should not have done the op as it was not his job to he did not know my dads background.
My dad told me the day after that he did not want us to see him the way he was that night because he thought he was going to die. To be honest I dont really want to speak about it because its quite upsetting for me so I will just leave it like this. But basically I know the NHS did wrong and I know now I will never trust them.
