It'll be a portfolio for a graphic design student, who's also very underground art/graffiti orientated.

There will be an entrance page then this main site will be in a pop up window. Pop up windows are gay, I know, but it's what he wants. The bit where the text is now will be where the content is loaded/changed using a divvv..

Opinions please? It's not finished yet, and I'm waiting for him to send me a better, more detailed design of his character.

Make the 'welcome to....' bit bigger - gets lost with the rest of the text.

Make him get rid of the pop-up - nothing is a bigger pain and makes me cross out again.

try and push him away from the pop-up, nothing I hate more, especially when Ive got multiple sites up in different tabs and one wants to be in its own window

Design generally looks good, once there is proper content in it will look 1000x better too.

Might be able to sway him from the pop up, but then this design will be useless..

Think I've finished now.

Is this going to be Flash?

If is it NOT going to be flash, I have one point; The font you have that chosen will only display correctly for the people who have that font on their machine. If they don't, then the site is going to look dodgy.

The only other way you could do it using that font is have the font as an image, but not only does that mean bigger loading times, but also search engines can't catch the text in the site.

Something to bare in mind...

Where are the links going BTW?

Yepp, I know about the fonts.

I'll be using Helvetica and Ariel or Lucida Sans Unicode.

Will certainly try, however the website will be updated by the guy it's made for and not me so I'm gonna have to do everything I can with the style sheet to make sure he can't do.. anything.

phew, was gonna say that font is shit, such effort to read!

I always sway to Verdana, don't know why, the design looks ok, but like someone said most grungy/underground sites look the same so could do with something that will make it stand out more.

Was thinking the same.. thought about spicing it up with some bright colours here and there but I really don't think it'd fit in well.. Any ideas?

i reckon it could, go for a graffitti underground style, can use some bright colours then and it wont look so grungey. It gets boring seeing the same colours/style used

Yeah, shame its so dull. He's happy with it though, so all's good.

I've almost finished it now.. I just have one thing to overcome, the scrollbars in the middle of the design. I'm trying to find a method that allows me to have the scrollers in the usual place and still have the text in the box, but I can't find anything.

Opinions? I personally would like to redesign the site more to the theme of the entrance page, but I'm not spending any more time on it..

In IE 7 it looks wierd on that starter page - I was confused what to do?

You should instantly know what to press to go further on into the site....

Yeah.. I'll sort that out, but right now I'm trying to get it to work in IE6. So frustrating, it works perfectly in Firefox, Safari, Camino.. but not the most popular browser because IE6 doesn't support position:fixed.

I've been doing this ALL day, and might aswell bin it and start again.

http://skatebasingstoke.com/clients/dirty30/bug.html

Does anyone use IE6 anymore?

when you click on the link (in the text part of the site) is it meant to open into a new window the same small size as the main site?

No. What browser are you using? It just loads in a normal sized window on FF2 for Mac and Safari. Shouldn't be the same size as the small pop up site..
