ARGHHH!!!

WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY is it in place! To scare us off the roads!

(no i havent been done lol!)

Just been on a large section of it, both directions. Silly limits posted up - 50 and 60 when traffic is flowing nicely. But of course, you get the idiots that hammer down the outside lane but WHO DONT GET FLASHED! EVER! Why? Its clear they are breaking the limit, and over the 10% jobbie!

Theres not a set of cameras between 13->16, loads down by the A3 and one set by 17. But one of the outside lanes doesnt have a camera, the sence in that? Explain somebosy, please!

Just like when there are no limits up (and when there are limits up), you have to dirve staring at the speedo because there are camera lines everywhere. Being 17 and only aving one chance to get done, that scares me?

Someone explain how this section works to me. please!

You think that's bad, try driving between the M1 turnoff (J21 I think) and Basildon (J29), SPECS cameras...

Just keep to ALL the speed limits, including variable, and you'll be fine.

The speed cameras on the back of the overhead signs etc are only in effect when the variable speed limits are in place, as mentioned by Clarkson on Top Gear. So when the accident/breakdown is cleared everyone thinks "ahhh, it's ok to go faster" but the cameras will still catch you out, even if there is no reason to go that slow.

You'll probably hit obscene amounts of traffic anyway, so you won't be able to go that fast

Yes, I would presume time of day to ensure the traffic flows freely (which never works) but it is all done with the overhead signs etc.

idiots

please learn wtf you are talking about before going off.

variable speed limits are there to stop congestion . if people stuck to them there would be no issues .

its to stop the knock on ripple effect. if there is an incident, even as minor as someone having to hit the brakes, this has a knock on effect that could potentially cause tailbacks. if traffic further up the road has had to slow, even slightly, and your traveling at 70mph still, you will catch up with the slowed traffic very quickly, then have to slow a bit yourself, you soon get a knock on effect and before you know it, a tailback. By slowing the traffic in advance of an incident, you give it chance to get moving again, thus stopping a build up.

it is a very good idea, one used in other countries such as germany, and if everyone stuck to them the traffic would flow far better.

Once again steve, a wonderful comment from you because someone doesnt understand something. Nice one. Pillock, go drive your 106 in Germany

I always stick to these limits, but still congestion happens, even when most stick to the limit. What ever happens, if there is a lane closed etc, bringing the limit down is not going to help. Youve still got to sqeeze the traffic round this lane closeure which generally means stopped traffic. I really do just think that it is there to piss people off, and to extract momney from people (even though ive never seen one of those cameras go off, even withpeople doing ~85 in a posted 60 limit). I am scared about exceeding the 70mph limit when there are blank signs, so if you can spread some light on how and why the cameras dont work, would be much appreciated.

In advance of an incident, as it's written, looks like you mean before it has happened

why dont you just all stick to the variable speed limits, then you wouldnt need to worry about cameras, and there would be less congestion.

leave the speeding to free'er roads if you must
