I know this should probably be in house day but I would like reaction from the entire CS population.

I am moving back home in July after graduating at university. My mum wants me to pay £60 a week (£240 a month) in rent. That will cover food, gas, water, electric, council tax and internet. I will pay for my mobile phone and Sky in my room. IMO, £60 is rather a lot, as for not much more than that, I think I could move out and rent a room somewhere.

Forgot to add, I am the only dependent child and mum is on her own.

How much do you pay and what do you get?

60 quid a week is a lot. doesn't cost that much to feed you and keep you warm etc.

parents trying to scam you or trying to make you realise just how much things cost in this world.

£60 seems quite excessive, Especially as she is your parent, most of my friends pay £150pcm/£40pw ect/nothing

Wish i never moved outta my mum's Everything was Free

Moved out now and my rent alone is 120 a week, then got bills to pay on top.

1 of my mates lives with me however and he pays me £40 a week which includes room, food, Bills ect, i reckon if i worked it out i wouldnt be making much of a profit on him

Thats not too bad IMO. YOu could get a room somewhere else, and run the risk of living with some tossers. At least at home with your ma, you know who you live with.

i would say that its not that bad.
if you get your own place, even just a room its going to be 50 a week minimum just for rent, then add food at at least 20 a week, electricity gas, water, council tax etc it would be easily over 100 a week.
although living in your own place would most likely give you more freedom

It depends how much you earn, but its not exactly excessive. I used to pay my mom £200 a month when i was on £730 a month from work.

does sound a lot, but then again if she is on her own then it wouldn't hurt to pay it + plus you cant beat home cooking, and for 60 quid a week you're getting pretty much everything done for you mate

I'm going to suggest £40 a week (£160 a month).

I think that is reasonable IMO.

Think it should depend on how much you earn to be honest...

Maybe come to an arrangement where you pay her less rent but guarantee to save for a house deposit etc?
