popped in by Lotus again today to try and get a drive...
We had come to the conclusion that it was either an S1 exige or S2 elise.
Went in not really knowing the difference between the newer S and R's... both are toyota engines from late 04 i think, but the R is the 190bhp vvti one.
Fee went out in it first:
Fee - a hell of a lot comfier than the impreza, and quieter.... quite quick.
Then i had a wee shot. I thought it was pretty slow till around 6500rpm (not vtec ) you really do feel the car picking up, and the change in engine tone. Seats were quite comfy, but my knee's were a wee bit in the way if i was to be using alot of the steering wheel. Fine on open roads where the quick rack is ok, but in town i'd have to feed the wheel quite a bit i think. I couldnt really get my hand to the bottom of the wheel without planning it in advance 
brake pedal is cool, kind of like a wee 3cm rectangle bar, nice and close to the accelerator for potential heel-toe'ing.
Salesman told me to drop a gear and floor it round the curving slip road. er ok.... dropped to 3rd, floored it, hit the limiter, into 4th, floored it... under took a golf that changed lane infront.... then had brake quite hard for a round a bout....
they shouldnt tell you to floor it 
quite fancy an S2 Elise R now though 
not as go karty as the striker though 
PS they have HUGE boots

i'm 6'2".... my seat was right back and the only prob i had was the wee one with the bottom half of the steering wheel.
Fee is 5'10" and had no probs
Jambo - didnt take any pics.... it was a graphite colour though.

I thought it was absolutely superb on the track, but when it comes to it, they are a pain to get in and out of, really noisy, theres bugger all inside in the way of comforts (bar the radio) bump ride, pretty much everything a track car should be and a road car shouldnt

Were you in an S1 or S2?
What do you get in a car to do? Listen to music/watch TV or DRIVE? I have a living room in my house to relax, i have a car to drive places.

anyway...
its not really the bottom of the wheel thats the prob, its the sides... my legs come up the sides of the wheel, and its a smiggen crampt. I could get used to it though :/

hmmm hard choice that, id prbally go for the S2 R over the Exige, i love the S1 exiges more that te S2 Exiges, but i like the S2 R look and its newer etc...

Are you buying this for track fella? or bit of both? For road use id prefer a VX220 Turbo, nice usuable torque and not having to rev the nuts of it. You considered looking/driving one of these?

I had a S1 elise and i had sooooo many problems with it at least once a week i was back at the lotus garage with things wrong with it. I never had problems with the engine (K series so should have gone wrong!) it was all the other bits!! I was pulling onto the motorway once and i was winding the window up and it fell into the door. I could only listen to the stereo when the headlights were on, you couldnt fit a bagette in the boot 
I would still have another one, as it was alot of fun, but i wouldnt have it as an everyday car and i wouldnt pay over 8k for one - they just arent worth the money when you can get an S2000 which is reliable and fast for the same money.
Still beautiful cars though
Just remember to go for the toyota VVTL-i engine - at least one part of the car wont break.
