Following from my idea about going for a 3 Series M Sport d (probably the 325d M Sport) or an A4, I've found something that satisifies all criteria...

BMW 330d SE Coupe

In black with full red leather, satnav etc, nice 5 spoke 18s, 231bhp AND 43.5mpg ... 50+mpg on the road I use everyday (A34!)

Would mean not being able to get it until next Macrh but would mean more time with the Golf, esp over the summer!!

http://www.whatcar.com/car-review-video.aspx?RT=874&P=WM&SP=FAST

Would look identical to that altho the seats would be the more bolstered sports seats (same leather) and diff wheels!

Also the perfect car to trade in for a new M3... which has always been the plan for in a few years

Umm... well, its under £40k

Depends on the dealer really and the discount they are willing to give, if you look at the used ones thay are all as equally well specced as I would have so theres little to barter with there so its catching them on the day... a decent deposit is probs the best bet and a good trade-in... list is a little under £38k by the time you add GAP insurance

Joe... most certainly is a lot of money but then it is a lot of car for the money... i quite agree its not £38k's worht of car but then thts the premium for the badge and build quality etc. :S

Hold its value well as well so that it can be traded against that M3
