are these any good for gains? like the look with the gti - 6 wheels, they're good on fuel and low insurance, but can any more be squeezed from the engine because 90bhp is a bit lacking!

6 wheels - wow

I had a mate with a high mileage one, seemed to be quite reliable.

I remember reading something a long time ago that you can get 140bhp from the D-Turbo. Think it cost £1500.

But thats as much as i can remember.

i would NOT recommend going lower than 30mm, they already have great handling.

that must have been made me think they was 120bhp

my mate has a red one with black gti - 6 alloys on. He reckons he is on about 120-130bhp at the moment with a few engine mods and a land rover charge cooler.

the 1.9 td units can be tuned for free quite easily, its said to be safe to run 18psi on the standard topmount with the fueling to match, so for nothing you can have roughly 115-120bhp in a good handling chassis, that is economical and low insurance. For that reason they are spot on, if you are wanting a car for performance then it isn't going to set the world on fire but its spot on for a bit of spirited country driving. Also they can be picked up for cheap, and there is plent about in the scrap yards for bits.

My astra is running at 18psi at the mo. I've sent a few email's to Craig Hodgson at Turbo Dynamics and he said

"Hi Steve,
We are always very careful not to overstate the power figures that you may
achieve, but on average we often see 50-60bhp over a standard set-up, the hybrid
turbo gives more are over the standard turbo, there is usually a little price to
pay in terms of lag but with the car well set-up it is not huge, the unit is not
ball bearing..."

Oh and he said it would be £675+vat for the turbo.

Could be something to look into.
