Ok, before i go into this bare in mind i am well aware it is my own fault here i should have looked into the SORN business abit more in depth before and i should have had the car off road. However i think you can understand how i feel slightly miffed at the sitation, read on..
Ok last year i bought a corsa sport 1.4 16v requiring a headgasket, took an age and didnt get it sorted etc. The car is parked in an off the road carpark and hasnt moved since i purchased it.
On the 19th Of this month (a few days ago) i came home to a tax sticker saying it had been reported and i was to recieve further fines for it. Now i go online and declare it sorn but couldnt have moved it on my own round the back of my house or possibly to the garage untill the 21st.
Came home yesterday to find my car has been removed, i live in Basingstoke the car has been taken to Southampton - without warning - without notice - without a clamping period.
Resulting in.
The initial Backtaxing fine i am awaiting.
£200 Fine if to have the car released.
£80 Fine on top if not collected by 11am today.
£15 Fine on top everyday there after.
And the cherry on the cake, the car is about 25 miles away. Doesnt run hasnt done since i bought it, once i pay for it they dont bring it back it gets pushed out the doors and is my responsibility from there onwards.
The DVLA can do this within there rights, as i said before its my own fault. But i have lost a car that owes me £600 and was worth more than your abaondoned broke into on the actual carridgeway 1.1 Fiesta.
I was currently saving for a move to live with my Girlfriend at uni and my savings are going to take a massive hammering due to this and possibly render our plans useless.
So if your car is on the road, or off the road in a carpark as mine was and is untaxed move it somewhere safe and have as irrelevant to it being sorned it will be taken unless on land not designated as that of the queens highway.
Alternatively anyone fancy a corsa sport needing not much work to be a runner again from Southampton to be collected for what £300 to cover all my fine costs? lol

If its on the road anywhere, and isn't taxed, its illegal.......
If a car/bike etc is Sorn, it has to be off the road, on a driveway, in a garage etc, but anywhere off the public road.

Afternoon.
Not blaming anyone, more just making people aware if they werent sure about the stipulations involved and the fact that they can and will remove it without warning.
Im not blaming anyone as i stated i knew i was in the wrong the grounds for 'on the road' admitadly were abit sketchy but still its unfortunate.
Like i said just incase people are unsure with regards to where they have there car and think it will be ok to leave it - it isnt it will be taken.

Laws the law mate, you flaunt it you pay the consequences!! I had 2 cars off the road a lil while ago, first thing I done was get them put on my property, bin in the tax & register as sorn. If you never done that you've no one to blame but yourself.

Christ sake.
I am not blaming anyone, it is entirely my own fault for not sorting it out. It is unfortunate they have the grounds to remove the car without for example a 24hr warning.
Im not on here looking for sympathy just letting people know for those who (like myself) are unsure that they can and will take the car with immediate effect.
I hope that clears it up.

They would have had to have solid proof i was driving the car to have given me points id have thought Colin. As the car hasnt moved that would of been difficult to prove.

Im sure an uninsured car just sat on the road is an offence worthy of points in itself??

As ive found out lol
I really do think they need to have put abit more emphasis on this law atleast abit more consideration but motorists are an easy target.
Still rules are rules etc, just a shame they couldnt have been passed with abit more compassion. - Having said that, what a joke, its about money mainly not compassion -

Doesn't the SORN decleration tell you it has to be moved off road/drive way etc...?. The name kinda gives it away.

Thanks for the post, i would have never thought to be honest, i live on a cul-de-sac and park at the side of the house as my mum and dad park on the drive, mine maybe sorn this summer if i go away so i'm glad you posted as i'd have probbaly left it on the road. (although it would be unlucky to get busted for that where it is i imagine)

Dom.H - Was parked in Popley, saw your car at the little car park by the Anvil the other week thought it looked good nice and subtly done.
Carl if its a headsup to anyone then the post has served its purpose.

I bought my car from a chap 100 miles away in Kidderminster, turned up and it was on his driveway with no tax. He advertised it as 6 months T+T I told him I wanted to pay £90 less to have it taxed or I'm reporting it to the DVLA and leaving with nothing.

just to make it worse... if you intend to tow the car (not trailor) you will have to tax, insure and mot it to be roadworthy and the garage will most likely want to see proof of this before they let the car go.
