Talking about girls you don't just wanna bed on the first date!
Now a days do people still "date"? Or just go to the pub, have a curry and back home to bed?........
Opinions please................ might have to put some of your suggestions to the test later this week

Instead of going out for a meal, why not cook her a meal instead? (not beans on toast etc, an actual decent meal). To some girls, the sentiment of putting the effort in is better than going out for a meal Then go for a nice walk along the beach

I would do that, went along the beach with the ex once, and it was really nice, bit romantic, but the nearest beach is miles away, unless I cook her breakfast, we could get to the beach for sunset

Meal - can be difficult to relax and you need to go not spill anything, ever.
Bowling - you are not 14. Later in the relationship when you have used up all your other activities and can both laugh about how tacky this is, but first date no no no.
Clubbing - if the conversation is really that bad.
DVD at home - good choice but pick a good film and bear in mind she won't care whether your HD TV is interlaced or progressive.
Screw - classy.
Other - yes, quite simply, there are no rules. Do what you both want and can relax doing, and that will cause her to want to see you again. If you can put a bit of thought in to it then all the better. No pressure.

Ice breaking is best where you both have a high chance of embaressing yourselfs infront of each other. Ice skating is a winner here.

In my experience, women like to be treated nicely, so I go for the meal option. Or a good bar where it's possible to have a conversation over some drinks without being deafened by music.
Plus if you go out, you can show her how good you can look, so she'll remember that the next morning when you wake up next to her, scratching your arse and burping in her hair.

Bowling isn't tacky, it's fun.
But yeah, probably not a good idea for a first date!

Oh yeah, don't get hammered either, cos when you go in for the kiss and end up vomiting in her mouth, that's just not sexy.

Forgive my 'oldagedness'
But first port of call would be:-
'what would you like to do? whatever you want'
If she faffs about wondering what to do suggest something you both might enjoy and will allow you to get some banter/convo going.
Nothing worse than being somewhere where you dont know what to say next
