its bollocks, only a percentage of whats been taken is actually used to construct new hospitals/schools or medicals supplies. A big chunk of it is used to pay for admin costs and people to fart around eating sandwiches

i dont donate purely for the fact its shovelling money into a sesspit.
yes there are the needy in africa, but they need to start helping themselves.
noone in this day and age should think if you sleep with a virgin your cured of aids
its a problem not solved by simply throwing money at it

I agree.
I entered the Truck of Luck on Radio1 a couple of times, but that was pure greed on my part. Not for the 'good causes'.

My mate just got a job at the Learning and Skill Council - none of the 15 staff have anything to do most of the time and the majority are on over £25k in admin posts - such a massive waste of money

Africa wasn't ready to be civilised, we went over there colonised it, they got hold of our technology and kicked us out, and now they are fighting each other, it will forever be the same there.

Comic Relief also helps causes in this country, but a lot of what you just mentioned is down to the goverment to sort out - can you imagine if £40m was raised for the NHS? Yeah it'd be great but unfortunetly it'd go next to nowhere to solving the problems that the NHS has - the entire NHS system needs a complete shakeup as there are too many chiefs (on fat wages) and not enough indians doing the actual hands on work and no amount of money will change that - be it £40m or £40bn as the money will still go the same way as it does now - just in greater numbers.
Same goes for the emergency services, same goes for asylum seekers and to a lesser effect the uk homeless situation.
If you feel so passionate about the situations you mentioned then do something about it - speak to your local mp, send a letter to goverment, start a petition - but posting on CS about it I can guarentee will have no affect on the situation at all!
I'd like to say a huge well done to people like bubblevaux and Kerry who gave up their own time to go and help out and also to those that donated.
Wether you agree with the causes behind things like Comic Relief or not these people should be thanked imo.

Yeah which is why I said that no amount of money will help the NHS as it needs a shake up which only the goverment can do

Well i did this and i was really dissappointed
You say this country is a mess and your right
I had people call to just waste time and mess around, lots of giggling, people thinking swearing is cool, some loser wanting to complain about ricky gervais, someone else thought i could pass a message to billy connolly and then half wits who thought they were voting for Tara
I donated 6 hours of my time for that!!
The highlight of my evening was at 11.45pm an 83 year old man called to donate £5 as that was all he could afford. Went on to tell me he lost his wife and he lived alone etc.....
Now thats what does this country proud
This country is a fuck up and its not just the governments fault.........
