Just been on the phone to them to book my car in so they can fit the gearlinkage I have, to replace the fucked one and stop it crunching into gear...

Obviously I don't want to drive the car to them, as it sounds nasty at every gearchange.

I live 5 miles away from the dealer, so I can't get home if I do drive it in.

So, I explain all this to her, and she tells me there is a £75+vat charge for collection

I tell her I have Network Q cover, and she asks me if that covers recovery

Last time I had work done, they collected the car, so I assued it had, so I said yes, then she checked and told me I wasn't covered

I say 'ok then, what if I drive the car in, book it in and drive home, will you collect it then, like you did last time?' and she says no, they'll keep it overnight, and start work in the morning...

I ask her how she reccomends I get home, will I be getting a courtesy car? Apparently not, as I'm not 21

Then I explain to her that I had spoken to their parts dept about the linkage a while back, and the bloke had told me they couldn't get any for months, as they're in such high demand, so I sourced one myself, brand new, in GM box, with GM part number on the linkage.

She tells me that it will void my warranty as I didn't buy it through them

So apparently, I have to drive my car in tomorrow (fucking up the gearbox with the crunching) leave it with them overnight (not being able to get home) and then wait 4 months for them to get me a gear linkage, as they won't fit the genuine GM part I have

Summary - York, Ward and Rowlatt = useless.

Can you not do it yourself? Its a pretty easy job and the linkage is only about £40's worth?

I see your poitn rob, and the rest is shit, but without going into detail, for them to claim it they must provide the part, otherwise the warrenty claim will get thrown out

Vauxhall say that you can replace any part in a non dealership with OEM parts and it will NOT affect your warranty. she is obviously talking out her arse! Was she service manager? If not the ask if you can talk to the service manager about it mate.

The thing is, the parts bloke has catagorically said they cannot get the part for months, and to get one elsewhere as it would be quicker.

By the time the part would be there, the warranty would have expired...

I shouldn't have to pay full stop

I'm covered for ANYTHING breaking.

I just think it's stupid that they can't get the part.

Take the car down & cassually throw the keys in the direction of the sales manager......tell him you have returned the car because it is not fit for use with a broken gear linkage, & they cant honour the warranty through no parts. Tell him if he gives you the cold sholder your going to trading standards

If the car is under warranty, but they cant get the part for 4 months, and the cars is undriveable. Surely they should supply a car in the meantime? As it is unfit for purpose and 4months, in my opinion, is unreasonable. They should supply you a courtesy car imo.

Then they should have something in place as it is unreasonable to expect you to be without a car for 4 months, which, correct me if I'm wrong, is what they are asking you to do.

I'm 19, licence not even held for 2 years, not even 1 years NCB, had a crash at 8:30am on Monday, was driving a courtesy car by about 11:30 - they could get you one if they tried.

Sounds like a pretty shite dealership to me. The only other option is to have your genuine GM part fitted by another non-dealer mechanic. I can't see how they'll know if the car has been touched. Surely not every single part number is recorded for that car? How will they know if it is that new, if the car is still under warranty anyway - not as if it is a 10 year old car.

Dean, was it a Vauxhall dealer who gave you a car?

And yeah, I could get it fitted elsewhere and it wouldn't void it, like you say, they're not going to know, BUT, I shouldn't need to be out of pocket, as I still have a full warranty (which appears to be about as valuable as a piece of wet mud)
