Yeah a protein shake is better than nothing, but your body will benefit so much more from whole foods. Protein supplements are just that - supplements. 1 or 2 shakes a day is a good addition to a solid diet. A good time for whey protein is first thing in the morning and straight after training.

I have 1 at breakfast with my porridge. then 1 30mins before gym then again straight after training.

I also eat a lot of chicken and tuna (not both in the same meal )

Eat healthly and more of it. Look at how many calories you should be having a day. A manual job requires more calories, so you could base it on that if you were going to the gym regularly.

IMO, anyone who says they cant put weight on is chatting crap. No matter how fast your metabolism is, eating more calories than your body requires will increase your weight. It's simple science. If you want to be big, eat big - it's as easy as that.

i started body building/weight lifting last month

i to have spent loads on whey protein, and other stuff. What ones you buying? I was buying holland and barrets stuff but one scoop of that was 16.5g of protein whereas you can buy the good stuff for a few pounds more and its likw 29g of protein per scoop, so im going to order the good stuff next. Just need a uk supplier, as i aint shipping it over from USA.

Check out www.bodybuilding.com if you haven't already. It taught me alot, helped me work out my macronutrient breakdown and diet / training too.
I have a shake with my breakfast in the mornings, 1 scoop whey, 50g oatmeal, 1 banana, 500ml of skimmed milk all blended into one shake and drunk then i have one before training (12.30pm) and another after (2pm)

Im buying from maximuscle.

their Promax extreme stuff. its not cheap but its 70g of protein, 5g glutimine and 5g creatine.

its a pretty good mix. take 3 times a day and your onto a winner

There are cheaper ones. look for monstersuppliments.co.uk (think its that site)

they do LOADS of different products. and there are user ratings for each too.

my boxing coach sells all these suppliments..theres hundreds and hundreds or diff types . When i started going to gym my friends are about the same size as me, but they were taking roids as well as alot of other things, out of the 5 of us i was the only one doing it natural (well apart from creatine and protein) and within 6 months they was double if not more the size of me.

depends what you want- although when i lost my job in october i give up the gym and i have lost most of my "bulk" i have gone from 13st 5 down to 11stone.

Just this week gone back into the loading phase of nutriants and getting a diet that i can work with.. i cant do this eating chicken a thousand times a day etc so the suppliments are the only way for me

I (Ojc) have been ill for the past 3 weeks (diagnosed with chrons) and I've lost even more weight due to not being able to eat a great deal.

Now I need to put more weight on and start bulking up a bit, I have no idea where to start.

Craig? Your the man in the know.

Yeah Steve have you got any progress pics? Ive never met you but have seen some pics of you on here before (drunken ones lol). Would be good to see how you're getting on mate. Its hard for you tall guys to look big, you could carry the same amount of muscle as a 5ft 5 bloke and he'd look huge (muscle wise) in comparison. Im 6ft which is average but short guys always look bigger.
