So with the Corsa gone, the Saab idea has gone out of the window.
Saabs are to hard to find with decent mileage for the money I want to pay and the object of the exercise is for the replacement to be a little Sporty, but not cost a bomb to run.
I have a couple of things in mind but thought I would open this up to the forum to see if there are any suggestions that I have missed.
Stipulations are -
A little bit sporty
Not going to cost a bomb to run
No more than 10ish years old - new as possible really.
Medium size car - (like the ones below)
3 Door
Contender #1 (winner so far) MK3 Golf Gti 8v (maybe a 16v but would prefer an 8v really). Does everything I need it to and it still has a "badge" totally solid, well bulit.
Contender #2 (Slipping away to be honest) Mk4 Astra Sri/Sport - stuggling to find one within budget that will meet my stipulations. (to be expected probably!)
Contender #3 - Peugeot 306 Gti - 6 am I likely to find something half decent for my budget, I do like them but concerned about them being FRENCH. Bits falling off, breaking, I know parts aint cheap!
This really is a rank outsider.
They are the main ones I have looked at.
Any other suggestions that I should look at?

I would prefer the golf out of the 3 but I may be biased as my Dad has a colour concept 2.0 8v and I love it, Has a good few creature comforts i.e full heated leather etc. Think his is only up to around 40 - 50k miles. And they can look gorgeous with very minor mods (Headlights grill and wheels).

you wont like it, but lupo, like seth has for sale, inside they ARE bigger than a corsa, and the 1.416v sport will be as fast as your corsa, if not faster, drive one

I would say the golf idea sounds sensible, pretty bullet proff and nice looking as standard.

I would be put of the gti-6 or xsara as said bits tend to fall off and dodgy gearboxes.
