If you saw someone being attacked / doing something illegal would you intervene?
If you saw Panorama you will understand
what would you do?

Take it as a general ASBO that "most" people would be angered by..
such as rape/attack/fighting/gangs of youths causing trouble/burglary etc
I wouldnt really bother a group of kids just hanging the streets or being noisy for example

its not that simple, if some 12 year old was robbing a granny then yes of course i would intervene. but if a group of 50 gangsters were twatting someone with large blunt objects then no, i wouldn't....
unless i had the machine gun of course

In a one on one situation with me against some bloke trying to get a till, I'd let them take it.
Obviously it's not quite that simple, the bloke might be tiny, in which case I might give it a go

Sad to say it but i'd probably turn away. If I knew I could do something i'd intervene but a big group of lads kicking off or something i'd steer clear. Too many phsychos about nowadays.

Obviously its not simple.. lifes not simple
in most cases like you see in the news.. no one would expect you to challenge 50 kids on your own but 2-3 kids on the street.. 1 on 1.....
too many people walk past and just ignore it..
at the least everyone should try and distract the offender.. even if its "Oi police" etc

my dad is a policeman, one of his friends in the force once cut off a car that was carrying 3 armed robbers forcing them to ditch the car, after an attempt to run him over. they got out, he stood up to them and they beat the shit out of him then ran off in different directions, he then managed to catch one of them despite being badly wounded. if that had been me in his shoes i would have let them go. the bravery of some people is incredible, some not so, but thus is life.

This is what i mean.. he was correct in forcing them to ditch the car etc as he had to an extent thwarted their attempts.. i would then expect that to be it ( before he did anything obviously ring the police) as the police would hopefully have got their in time (or back up)

some call it bravery and some call i stupidity.
Chasing down 3 armed robbers IMO is the latter.

Thoday, my dads mate was also a policeman. my point was that he was only armed with non lethal weapons, the robbers were packing serious weaponry. fortunately they didn't decide to use them on him. he won the police's most prestigious award for bravery (i forget what its called), recieved it from the queen etc

you have to be careful, lad at work went to help a girl being "attacked" in an alley way up town, as he ran up to help they both (the man and woman) turned knives on him and stole his wallet - it had fuck all in, but not the point

alot of the time is split decision and you don't really think about it. Cosmo, i'm fully with you on the stupidity comment, hes retired now but hes been helping my dad decorate our living room the last few days. we were talking about it and he was saying how retarded it was of him to stand up to them, could have turned out alot worse for him.

I agree with Ross if a bloke was attacking a woman, or someone elderly i would step in, otherwise its not worth the risk, to you , your family or property.

I'd ring the police, not worth confronting anyone these days too many cowards with knives etc.
