The Big Chill: Snow And Ice To Strike

Winter's first big chill is poised to hit Britain, weather forecasters have warned. Freezing snow and ice is set to sweep down from the north, as temperatures plummet throughout tomorrow. The chilly blast comes as the wind changes direction from the warmer south west to the north, bringing weather in off the icy North Atlantic.

Towns and cities across the UK, already battered in Thursday's storms that brought havoc and left 17 dead, are now braced for the season's first real winter weather.

Windy conditions across many parts of the UK will continue over the weekend, especially in the north, but not as fiercely as earlier in the week.

Scotland is facing just 3C (37F) or 4C (39F) on Sunday with the rest of the UK a chilly 7C (45F) or 8C (46F).

Monday and Tuesday is expected to be even colder, with maximum temperatures reaching only 5C (41F) on Monday and 4C (39F) on Tuesday, with a widespread frost.

The start of next week will also see snow showers down the east coast, stretching from as far north as Aberdeen, all the way to Dover.

Scotland, the Borders, the north east, Yorkshire, Lincolnshire, East Anglia and Kent could see snow falls measured in inches.

Some snow might even fall as far inland as London, which may get a light dusting, say weathermen.

North Wales and Cornwall may also be hit.

Not sure if you can make anything out on this, but traffic is horrendous. I can feel a day off tomorrow coming
