Obviously you will need to declare it SORN and get your remaining tax back.

But if you are keeping the car on a driveway that isnt a public highway do people bother insuring it? My dad reckons you should, but do people usually bother?
The car will no doubt be undriveable, and youd never get a lorry/low loader in my road so pretty impossible to move it unless under its own steam. So why bother insuring it? Or am i taking a chance?

Reason i ask is i want to take the cally off the road for 2months or so so i can work on it myself and fix a few little niggles and get bits painted and get it all undersealed etc etc This will also delay me having to pay my car insurance for a few months!

Peoples thoughts?

Keep it insured if you're worried about it being stolen, especially as it is a nippy Cally. Better still to prevent that, take the wheels off! Then you've just got to worry about fire etc.

If it's not going to be moving for a couple of months will that mean that it'll be parked behind other cars that are using the drive? Cos then it wouldn't bother me as much as if someone wanted to steal it then they'd have to move the other cars to get to it.

yes, but only at the top of the road. it will be blocked in by a 5series bm, and they wouldnt be able to angle it to get it on the back, and i will most probably take the wheels off.

If a lorry did appear in my road it would wake the neighborhood up as all the houses are in a circle very close together. Plus all my neighbours are freaks and if i come back late at night they run out the doors with flashlights and dressing gowns

Niether of my golfs are insured nor taxed, one up the drive with 1/2 an engine & on ramps, others in back garden looking sorry for itself

Only worry about not being insured is maybe a tile falling off the roof & hitting the car on the drive.

my road is a funny little one and hidden from main roads so dont get anyone walking past as such, plus my sisters car would be the one they would be after lol (snowy)

I have a garage but my parents have issues of filling the garage up with crap.
