anyone else seen the landing videos? due to high biuldings, nearby mountains and strong cross wind make one of the most difficult airports to land at, it closed in 1998

There is a video somewhere of people on the beach getting blown into the sea by a plane powering up on the runway.

Seen them before, that new airport was long overdue

I remember being quite scared landing in corfu, the runway starts right at the edge of the sea

kai tak has to be one of the most impressive landings i have ever experienced. scary as a first time hitting the chequered markers on the mountainside and aircraft performing a full 60deg turn at 150kts. those were the days when pilots had beards, massive chest hair and medallions

Actually, city aiport is quite mad also, might have only noticed corfu so much as it was only the first time i'd landed in an airoplane (but second time i'd taken off

Yes, I also had this mad thing like pins and needles in my forehead when descending so was probably more scared about that (probably something to do with the pressure) but our landing was quite sketchy.

Its quite weird. I flew into the airport just before it close. It was strange being able to look across and see into other rooms etc.
