Software Consultant. Good fun but I think i will eventually get bored of writing code all day and become a project manager or business analyst.

I work as a computer engineer, well thats my title. I go to sites install a specialist program do configuration on the servers and do the sql database for it.
Do testing for the lastest devolpments and also some VB for the devolpment.
I get to do training as long as my boss agrees, im doing a NVQ level 3 at the moment then moving on to more the server side than stand alone and acsess database.
Its good pay + expense's are good. The only bad thing is the hours and the amount of driving i have to do. done nearly 2k in a week and a half

i would never do anything above gcse in "ict" or "computer science", better off investing in more specialist training

Depends where you do computing science but I know what you mean and I hate the term IT.

pay is ok, however I'm probably not your traditional network engineer.
currently I design, config, implement, maintain and support networks for electronic trading. All of it Cisco, but also get pulled into stuff that involves Solaris, FreeBSD, and various other bits not worth mentioning.
Never done a cisco exam in my life but more then able to build a network (including routers, concentrators, pix firewalls) from scratch using the console.

i am a Cisco Network Engineer, there is alot of money to be made with the right qualifications, i.e CCNP, CCIE, CCVP etc
I am one exam away for being CCNP
Look for jobs with being CCNP starts at 30k there is a demand for Network engineers atm.

They do CCNA in college (i think) i now they did it in uni. CCNP is a professional qualifaction, so prob have to do it in a work place, or do it your self and book exams and courses etc. They arent cheap the courses for a week, near 1k for a weeks course.
