Assuming I do eventually sell the car, which do you think I should go for? An old 205 1.6 GTI with lots of cash left over - around £1-1.5k. Or delve into my credit card and get an S2 Rallye and live on beans for the next few months?

Why???? I'd keep the S1, if you got an S2 wot would you do to it?? Personally i'd get the GTi then strip it as it already has the 16v lump (which everyone seems to put in them) I love my 106's and getting one on saturday, i love the series 1's more though!!!! I had an xsi. if i was you i'd keep the s1 and spend your cash on that (or credit card!!!). Why are you wanting to sell?

S2 Rallye
A bit more special than a GTi, and newer as well.

aaah!!!! Sorry getting a bit caught up in my love for 106's!!! Sorry. Definately a Rallye S2 over a 205 GTI (especially the 1.6), but i'd still keep the S1 over both tbh.

Personally, I think the S2's look superb. I'm not too keen on the older shape.

is there a reason why you want to get rid of your s1 rallye? as cupra steve said 16v the s1 would be by far the best option to go for. having been in a mi16 205 and a 16v s1 the rallye was faster

Thats quite a result. I wouldnt want to 16v my rallye, I dont want the hassle of fixing up the body panels, sourcing rear door cards etc. There are too many imperfections for a perfectionist like me, I want an original car I can keep in good shape and not strip out next time lol.
