basically looking to get a new car within the early part of next year, will be finishing my car off first though.
question is what car to get
i want something fairly quick,
reliable
well made
practical, so it will last me a good few years
good fuel economy
cheap insurance group
the best car i can think of that has good performance for such a low insurance group is a corsa c 1.8 sri
any other ideas or do you all agree, and how much should i be looking at to get a 03 plate at least

not sure really, lets say no more then 5.000, but it would be nice to spend as little as possible obviously to save money

Astra SRi 2.2? often overlooked, not expensive to insure.
tbh, 'good fuel economy' and 'fairly quick' aren't going to go hand in hand.
but, i'd say the astra is a good bet.
I know of one for sale for about 5k too, 52 plate, irmscher kit, VERY well looked after...

yeah, but don't judge by group, get a quote, as the astra 2.2 will be about the same as the corsa sri I reckon, as it's a bigger car, and less of a risk.

Just because the astra is a step up really.
They are probably equally as good.

mk4 astra sri's had 1.8, 2.0 and 2.2 engines, the 2 litres are older, and the 2.2 is better.
1.8 is a nice car still, but the 2.2 is worth the extra IMO.
edit: I'd have an Astra over a Corsa if I were buying now.

1.8 engine is the best choice imo.

why? (genuine question)
I'd have the 2.2, it's all alloy, and has more torque, and chain driven cams, so doesnt need as much at a service, thus being cheaper.

The Gsi is a 1.8, not 2.0.

The 1.8 is just as fast as the 2.0 so i'd pick it over that, I don't know too much about the 2.2 actually but never thought it was worth the extra money and insurance etc over the 2.2, I could very well be way off the mark though.

no, the Mk3 GSi was a 2 litre, then another 2 litre, then a 1.8. The mk4 was ONLY a 2 litre turbo.

I've always found the 2.2 to be similar in insurance price to the 1.8 John, but, they're ALL good cars, even with the 2 litres getting on a bit now.
