had to share this cos i still cant belive it really,
last week girl i work with son came in with with a friend and said that some lad wanted to race me in the vx220.......... he has a 03 plate astra GSI turbo and just bought it and is only 19-20 i think!! very nice car for age!
his is convinced that his car is gonna thrash me.................... i could not really belive wot i was listening to!!
they both have excatly the same engine ......................... but pretty sure the VX220 is fair bit lighter and more agile
to add little more to story, last night was following my bro in to work in his clio 172 and me in the vx........... turned out of are little lane onto mainish road and booted it, after about 40mph i almost pulled out to overtake bro but really is no where to over take so i just pulled back then this astra gsi came up behind me close..........i didnt notice him really then went over round a bout and noticed him, put me foot down after round about and he tried to keep up, didnt last to long and he soon dropped back ...............hehe
will be interesting to c if he still thinks ge can beat me?!?!
generally dont get anyone wanting to race me in the VX220 its disapointing, the astra was much betta for people wanting to play .......... hehe

FPMSL The VX220 is supercar speeds 0-60 in 4.7 seconds, the Astra will be made to look ridiculous

my clios quicker than a gsi turbo to 60 so your vx will murder it,
Then youl come to a corner and the race wil be over.
Cant blame him though, at 18 i thought my corsa 1.6 sport would beat anything lol

i thought they would be faster than that, teh zafira gsi is 0-60 in 7.4sec and 10hp less!!!! i want one of them............. little tuning and maybe stripping inside out would be very fast!!!!!! propper sleeper also, hehe

was out in mates vx220 turbo a while back.. really nice car to drive, fun on the twisties
see what u mean iaz about them not being as fun as a mk3 astra turbo, didnt have the same grunt as my old one did!

Zafira GSi has same engine as the rest of them.
Clio 172 is not faster in a straight line than a GSi Turbo you gayer.

yea brothers clio 172 is 0-60 in excatly same time, sure the astra would pull beta after 60 than the clio tho, least it would be a close race, i will let me brother do the race with astra in the clio!!
or maybe let the lad race the VX220 with me mum driving and keeping it under3k revs!!! hehe

but once u get over 80or 90 they start to go flat! i do have sticking wastegate on mine at the min!! would love to do engine up on one.......standard management is not very good, re map gets them up to 230hp and get to 60 in just over 4 secs then!!
would love to experience one thats been stage 3-4tuned and running 280-300hp!! would be awsome matchine and nothing would stand chance againt it part from Bugatti............

Just because the cars lighter and has a higher BHP per tonne ratio, doesn't mean its always driven quicker....

Was hunting down VX220's all day. But the guys who could actually drive them were running a second or so quicker. You can see how much quicker the VX220Ts get out the tighter corners. Only "on it" for half a lap though due to traffic

Frankly, id say "yeah i'll race you. All you've got to do is pay my track day fees and we're there, becuase racing properly on the roads is for little boys trying to show off their willys."

1.6 sports don't beat anything?
nah i'm joking, i never really thought it would fuck EVERYTHING off, but it does upset some* cars
*mainly 1.4 focus's and saxo furios etc

another dowfal to VX220 is they are set up very much for FWD drivers cos most people are, i was going round round about last week at slow speeds to get back to flick out but the front end alawys looses grip first cos of skinny tires!!
with a suspention geo set up i heard u can stop that and make it handle like propper RWD car thats when it will become less safe but do round bends faster!!!
really wish i could keep my car for long time and do these things cos i really think its a VERY good fast car ............. but with some modifing could be totally amazing car! sooooo much potential just needs letting out
in the vid looks like the VXR is pushing hard and the VX220 looks very confortable getting really nice racing line each time and way to clean and tidy to be puching really hard! interesting vid tho

can get an astra VXR engine put in a vx220 now, and their is also a 6 speed box conversion for Z20LET engines, but dunno if it would work on the VX220, a lot of work
my mate is currently tuning his vx his aim is 0-100 in under ten seconds i reckon its possible, just down to how much money he can spend on it though!

the one in the vid???? is it a non turbo, sure i can c silver rims in the rear lights which means non turbo

the VX220 are cable gears?! not sure how that would conect with a 6 speed box!
i think your mate should do it no prob........... cant remember for sure but sure i was htting 100 in around just over 12 secs last week in the wet

TBH, that wasn't my best lap by far, and for most of it we were held up. But throughout the day i came up against all of them. It was a VX220 National Day. had some proper nice kit. Some VX220's had full underside defusers, the lot. I'll nab some pics of the track day if you want?
TBH, the NA models, good in the corners, quicker than the the Astra thats for sure, but on the straights they were no problem. Good cars for track days, but too slow for me. Would HAVE to have the turbo I think due to the performance difference.
The VX220T's on the other hand, just as quick as the NA's through the corners, and left me out onto the straights, buy the end i'd be catching them again, and most of them braked like old grannies with a full car of shopping and the pet poodle.
There were some drivers giving it some real beans. But the astra looses out. Its a great track car, but its no VX220T..
Those VX220s in front were all Turbos. I was all over that damn silver one, he would not let me pass on the straights though (as he'd pull a gap ont he corners). I was angry, we spoke, all was cool after He was also taking some weird lines..
There was a few 280+bhp ones down there. NO chance
