Looking at buying a new car next month on a limited budget.

Needs to be quick- 7 seconds to 60 at the most. Preferable a turbo but not essential. Must handle well! Insurance isnt too much of a problem.

Shortlist so far is:

Starlet GT
MR2 Turbo
Pulsar GTi-R
Mitsu FTO
Celica GT4

Was also considering an Impreza but I dont think I'll get what I wanted for that budget and dont really want a high miler.

Any suggestions appreciated!

I have a 106 GTi at the moment. Profile is out of date Great cars but I've had 2 of them so looking for something different.

R5 isn't really my thing.

Would consider a tuned Punto GT but i'm not too sure of them on the handling front; heard they are a bit rubbish?

Is the Glanza pretty much the same as the Starlet? Cool little things IMO

PMSL at the options, starlet turbo in the same list as the GTI-R?

0-60 isnt everything mate, try buying a car you actually have fun in rather than getting something for 'pub' stats with your mates

They both have their pro's and con's, they fit in the list because they are small, cheap and turbo'd.

Im fully aware of what makes a car 'fun' as my previous 2 cars have been 2 of the most 'chuckable' cars around. I dont care about pub stats, but 0-60 is a rough indication of performance and therefore a rough indication of fun. As you can see I have also stated I want something that handles well. I stated the 0-60 to help people make suggestions as there was no point people suggesting slower cars.

Clio is an option, good shout.

Best car for that price undoubtedly is a classic impreza, no doubt about it.

Forgot about 200sx, but arent they more than 4k for a decent one?

Brett- I would love a classic impreza but worried about the kind of example I would get for under 4k tbh.

Evo 2/3 might be a good idea!

I'm aware that GT4, Impreza will cost more to run but I'll only be doing around 4000 miles a year so it isn't that much of a problem.

Golfs arent really my cup of T.

Would probably be tatty/silly mileage for 4k. They are at least 5k for a decent one. I'm keeping my eye out though just in case though because I would love another ITR.

You'll get a relatively tidy impreza for £4k, I sold my old one for £3200 and that had 4 pots, strut brace, lowered and other mods + cam belt just done, etc.

Check out scoobynet, there's loads on there for that price, altho a grp 20 jap import is gonna rape you on insurance as it did me aged 21
