well, the dream has died. my wonderful job in factory has ended, contract terminated due to various reasons. earned an average of 23grand a year over 3 years there aswell, fully trained in all areas, and if i dont mind saying it, one of the best workers on the shift. soon to be replaced with a polish or portugese. took 2 years to learn what i knew aswell.
bit gutted, wont find another job that pays that much round here unless im really really lucky. agencies will be getting a phone call in the morning id say. need a job desperately.

unlucky dude, same thing over here got laid off a few months ago & replaced by foreign workers.
still i guess its onwards & upwards

Step back for a few moments mate - a job change could do you the world of good!!!
What did your old job entail?? What skills did it give you??
Surely you have money saved up if you were on a decent wage previously??
Why not retrian instead of going straight to another job?? Off shore industries where im heading - 2weeks on / 3 weeks off & £41k for an instrument / electric tech.

Gutted for you mate. When I started my job 7 years ago there were 1800 people working for the company, all english, now I am 1 of about 50 English left, its full of Kurdish, Polish, Portugese, Brazilian and Latvian people now.

job basically was producing rolls of plastic that were to be printed on elsewhere. its not an un-skilled job, a lot of training etc goes into it. i was actually a technician and mixed the blends for different types of plastic films.
the only skills i have other than being a grafter and working nights a lot i can take from this job is a forkilift liscence, and some warehouse experience. its my own fault basically for being sacked. under a bit stress and having a bit depression due to some bad news on a personal level so slept in for work. was on final written warning so thats it, sacked. luckily i will get 2 good references from my work, old supervisor and the training officer as they both never had a bad word to say about me
still a bit shit. and yeah, i have savings of about 1800 quid, which was going to buy the vectra supertouring in my avatar. wont happen now though.

Getting back into it is all well & good, but when you have been at this point 3 times since leaving school & through no fault of your own I have decided to do it right this time!! Way I see it im almost 25 now, that gives me 40years potentially I can work, if I take a year or two out now to get a few qualifications to get me to the level I need to be I can make more money in less time & not have to worry when im older & hopefully retire at 55!!
Up to you man & hope it works out, just thought id share my 2p's worth!!

A brief insite into my working life so far :
BP Oil for 2 years as a trainee Lab Technician - booted out after training because they were laying off half the workforce.
Ondeo Nalco Energy Services - Made redundant because some stupid fudd of a manager lost a contract through his ignorance & resulted in them needing less staff, one being me - was there almost 3 years!!
Quintiles Transnational - Machine operator - got the job due to a shift change (days - 24hr) then they decided we were producing too much product to meet market demand & couldnt supply adequate raw materials so it was dropped back to days - oooot after 3 months right before xmas !!
Decided to try another industry - Construction was meant to be booming so got a job as a trainee quantity surveyor for a small family run business (biggest mistake to date) Hated it, but stayed there for 2yrs 7months in the hope id get made up & move to another company!! Shit hit the fan & that never happened.
Now im at college doing Electrical engineering HNC & Instrumentation NC, i'll be finished in 7 months, do my survival course & be looking for a job as an instrument/electric tech or control operator.

I had about £6k savings in the bank, to get me through the 10 months college & pay my mortgage/keep the car on the road, I get all my fees paid for, £4200 student loan & a hardship fund of about £100 month. Im managing just fine

thing is i can afford to go to college, yes. i cant afford my car building habbits if i do. the things i own now would have to go. wouldnt be able to insure or keep on with the project vehicle and that is, sad as it sounds, one of the few things i enjoy in life

I could have kept my impreza or bought another one if I still thought short term..............how long would it make me happy for though?
I enjoy cars, maybe not to the same scale you do things but Ive just bought a golf im about to rip apart & rebuild - cheap project but still fun
Thats another advantage for college....loads of free time to tinker with your car

i had loads of free time with that job, did 4 days out of 8 on a shift pattern. loads of time off, also loads of overtime if i wanted extra cash. thats what made the job good really. ive been thinking then, i couldnt quit on my car building, i need a job atleast till the summer then can think about doing something training/college wise to better myself. although factories round here can pay pretty good, id prefer to earn money for a skill i can offer instead of just being really good at manual labour like i am

yeah, sure do, its something i need to consider, as mav says get a crappy manual labour job for now, look into training up for something better. its a shitter though. wont be buying the vectra now at all.

i havent got any reputable skills or qualifications in it. i built that corsa sure, and it was made of rediculous things, but its not good enough to just know one make of car ands engines really. could do xe conversions all day long, but dont have the space.
im sadly getting the feeling my joke about going to work for maccy ds might actually happen. and im sadly seriously considering selling the corsa, as i just cant afford it
