Evening.. I've just got myself a new job today so I'm handing my notice in tommorow.

What do I need to include in the letter? Short and to the point the best way...

Its a huge company btw so it isnt going to be in the slightest bit personal..

Don't waste time writing a letter unless they ask you for confirmation.

All of the above really. Been working part time for Sky for nearly 2 years and I couldnt get decent shifts and the job is basically crap so decided to do something I like doing.

Got a job as a bike mechanic so starting a week on monday full time with no crappy hours etc.. Happy to be leaving a boring desk job to do something I enjoy and get paid more for it.

Selling the cavalier in a month to pay for a bike because I want to commute using the train rather than driving every day.

Got the golf tucked away in the garage so need to get that finished before I can sell the cavy. grrrrrrrrrrr

I wouldn't listen to the above, I'd do it properly so as to avoid any future problems. You should always hand in a notice.

On my last 2, I've simply said:-

I hereby notify you of my resignation from my post as XXXXXX with (Company Name). This is effective from the above date. I will work a four-week notice period and will therefore leave your employment on XXXXX

Why write that? Its the company's problem, you don't need to wish them all the best in finding a replacement. Don't write a fooking essay or get into details blah blah. No point!

essay its two lines mate, it took me litterally 3 mins to write that, not exactly long is it.

And it doesnt hurt to have a bit of class does it.

Its not class, its just not needed. You can make your best wishes known when you speak to the person you are handing it into. Its just a way of formalising the process.

a ha never hurts to have a decent notice on your file incase you ever want to go back.

But yeah your correct obviously what i wrote would be to much effort to use, you know being all of 2 sentences, why dont you write what he should put then? instead of being detrimental towards my actual contribution to his problem

I usually use something along these lines;
Dear Sir;
Please accept this letter as my resignation from my employment as ************ at ***************, as from Whenever in 2006. Please accept this letter as my formal ***** weeks notice.

Yours Faithfully…..

No worries ever, it does the job and doesn't offer my written reasons, so leaves room for crawling back for a job, hehe!
