As title, mine sits on the drive now and only gets used as and when it must be; wouldn't dream of turning up for a job interview in it.

I don't know if its the whole modified thing or because it needs a bit of work to tidy it up, front and back bumpers need re-working and painting and few other jobs.

but it could just be the whole "Chav" image associated with modified cars down the scale

think thats whats getting me - I keep looking at neat looking factory specials; and thinking how much easier/nicer to drive they must be - not having everyone and they're dog gauping at you and being able to get over speed humps!

Would you believe that I actually get nods and looks of admiration in the Nova, its not noisy or offensive and its in superb condition, a bloke in a Porsche Carrera GT gave me the thumbs up on the motorway on the way to the Grasshopper meet, thats what makes it all worth it. Even my grandad likes my Nova and hes 75.

No I don't feel this way because without trying to sound big headed I think that I have done things quite tastefully and even though I get called boy racer many a time , its always these people who end up making positive comment about the car.

Thing that annoys me, is that exterior wise, my car has a standard 106 Gti bodykit!

No aftermarket parts added or silly kits, or big alloy wheels etc. Even my exhaust tip is v.small and subtle looking, it's not lowered excessivly either.

HOWEVER... I can't count the number of people who have commented on the fact I have a 'dun up 106', or a kitted up car.

It looks like a standard 106 Gti FFS. This is the main reason I sourced some GTi badges and put them on (previous owner had removed them) but still I get people who don't have a clue.

Yes the engine's tuned a bit, and the suspension is sorted, but on first glance you wouldn't know - so why is it a 'done up 106' or 'kitted up 106'.

Why is a Focus ST not a 'dun up Focus?' Just because it's a modern car?

Sometimes i think i'd like to own just a nice modern car, somthing you never have to worry about or think about and it doesn't drain money off you...

But when I drive a modern car like that I realize how boring it is...I much prefer driving a stripped out fast car than a refined modern car....only problem is I want the advantages of both

People at college ask me why I dont modify my car, I tell them:

1) Its diesel
2) Its a Polo

In that order.

i've never had a really kitted up car, although the golf was a bit of a lairy colour, that became embarassing, although a few people give my pulsar a few odd looks, not knowing that despite how lairy it looks. the bodywork is totally standard which is kinda

Yeah i understand that, but if your not comfertuble driving your car, why build it the way he has?
You build your car the way you want, so in turn you should enjoy it and not care what people think..
