Managed to get the wood I needed at the weekend so made some progress on the tank stand. Ordered my new filter (Fluval FX-5) and also the tank for under the 5ft one.
The wood I ordered and cut to size...

Made the frames up to go either side of the stand which will add some strength...

And this is the gap they are filling and then them both under either end of the tank...

And I found an old shelf that I wasnt using anymore that was the same wood as my units so cut it up and made some covers for the end pieces so it all matches in now...

And lastly this is it so far. The big gap under the 5ft tank will house a 4ft tank which is on order. The brown pieces of wood inside it will sit behind the 4ft tank and support he 5fter above it, so all that will be hidden.

How high will the lower tank be? Won't it be tricky to get into it and clean it?
Btw for the people who gave me advice about transporting my girlfriends fish from oxford to wales, they all made it

No, tank was a Juwel Rio400, started life as below and then I got rid of the stand and painted the trim on the tank white!

While painting...

Tank will be 48" x 18" wide x 14" high, so will leave me about 4-5" above the tank to get in and clean which is more than enough as only need to get a hose in to pick up the crap. It will have a white surround around the lower tank to hide all the extra space under the main tank.

I made a bit of a mistake in the fact that I didn't research much into fish before I bought a tank. So bought a 21 gallon tank then started thinking about what fish I would like to keep. Then kicked myself when I saw Cichlid Frontosa's and thought I like them then found out how big they grow to and that they would need a tank at least 3 times the size of mine So cant have them

Yeah I made that mistake when I first got into it, but since then Ive had a 7ft tank and 2 5ft tanks. So these two are smaller than what Ive had in the past!
When I move into a house in a year or so I'll get some bigger tanks again. Wanting a 10x2.5x2ft one and two 6x2x2ft ones.

Have you seen a guide on how to build a shark tank Is like a mini swimming pool

yup for the smaller tank, easiest way TBH.
The filter on the large tank though allows me to attach a hose to a conector on it and it pumps the water right out.

Cosmo; what filter is that? Our Aquatics shop said no-one made them any more!? I'm looking to upgrade tanks now, as the koi keeps going on rampages and trashing the tank lay out. Reckon its down to boredom, kois being a right pain to entertain!
Cheers!
edit as I appear to have forgotten what space is!

Which filter is what? The one with the hose out so you can do water changes?
Its the Fluval FX5 which goes for about £120 on Ebay. Have seen one in action and its amazing. So quiet and all the features on it is quality.

I do one 20-30% water change once a week, which is just a case of using a hose straight into my bath and then it connects to my tap to put the water right back in.
And I pick up the shit in it twice a week, which is easy as my powerheads push it all into one area so just use a short piece of hose to syphon it into a bucket. Job done!
and use a hose to suck up all the crap maybe twice a week.

Rio400's now go for about £300-350 on Aquarist-Classifieds.co.uk and that includes filter, lights, etc. so all you need is gravel or sand, heater and water!
