I'm looking to buy an Astra Mk4 turbo of some sort soon, and was wondering on people's experiences with them.

Particularly interested in things going wrong/needing changing, etc at certain millege.

Don't wanna get a 40/50k+ millege one only for the turbo to go or something.

Thanks

Nothing goes wrong if they are serviced when they should be.

Why don't you want a 40k mileage one? If its been serviced well it will be just as good as a 20k one, being a Vauxhall parts are easy to get hold of, you can get a VXR Turbo unit for it for under 500 quid, they are cheaper to repair and maintain than you think.

mk4 GSI is a nice car and could be my next choice as well... but also like the Coupe.
The coupe is cheaper is come cases and you get really nice interior as well, like the Blue with Black half leather or white/light cream.

Is worth have a good look around.

High mileage, they have had it for ages. Did'nt know it had done 77k though, the advert in the paper does'nt say the mileage, which is usually a bad sign.

Ahh 77k, bodykit is probably worse for wear then.

The two that i have had i had little trouble with apart from a oil flow valve of some sort on the Black one. The turbo's are not known to be the strongest tho so i wouldnt expect major millage out of them!

They were both around the 50k mark aswell

But you can get a VXR Turbo for under 500 quid anyway, and its a days job to replace it.

Tried a friends Astra Coupe Turbo and was not all that impressed to be honest though i am coming from a rigid enough well handling enough Corsa. Astra just didnt seem to have the grunt i thought it would and felt very heavy if that makes sense handling wasnt amazing for being uprated shocks etc. again im not used to bigger cars to be honest

It doesn't seem fast because its not as raw as a Corsa. Its smooth power delivery.

I have a 2003 astra gsi with 51k on it, got it at 40.5k had the belts etc done, fVsh, been faultless apart from age old AFM going on it.

Smooth and fast, obv not the fastest car out there but convincingly faster than a 182 etc.

Faster than a 182? Mid range & top end, in gear yeah I would agree but 0-60 and short sprints not sure as they don't suffer from the lag of the Turbo.

Never raced a standard one in Rachels car so couldn't say though.

No its almost un-noticeable but I still think intially the 182 would get away quicker.

it will kill a 172 or 182 out of 1st gear, 1st should be similar, only problem in the astra turbo is traction.

once in second i guarantee the 182 will be dispatched.

I had a go with a 172 when mine was standard this was all above 80, and i was keeping with it easily, so much so that i would swear he wasnt booting it if it wasnt for the exhaust i could hear it being ragged.

I was flashing him to move over
