do they work? what are the best on the market? reason beeing, i have a 1.6 eco and i dont think the last owner really serviced it, i have though.there is a build up or crap in the inlet (old 1)so might some of the crap got into the engine?

I know it won't be the case for your engine, but using them on old cars can actually make a problem worse because whatever its clearing out could have been keeping everything held together! Little extreme but you get the idea.
If I was you, I'd do a full service and use a fuel like Shell, which contains additives anyway.

yeah I think all those engine treatment things are f*cking crap, eg injector cleaner fuel additive, how can that possibly benefit your car? If all it does is pass through the injectors, surely it takes all the crap off them and puts it on your valves, pistons and bores!

3. oil flush is the stuff of satan. its basicly parafin (which is thin oil) mixed with low grade oil. the problem is that it will remove build-up of deposits in oilways that are totally harmless. these deposits might be blocking hairline cracks etc.. that once exposed to fresh hot oil will expand and end up with oil/water mixing, head gasket going/ burning oil....
the biggest problem is that the flush will never drain from your engine completely, leaving a film of thin oil over major components such as crank, bearings, cams, piston rings.... so for a period of time your engine will be running with very little lubrication! then when it does mix with the new fresh oil, you have just contaminated it with engine flush that is designed to thin the oil and break it down!
there are 2 things that you can do though.
1. use carb cleaner in your inlet system. spray it in (after any air flow meters) with the engine running. use a whole can if you want, it doesnt hurt anything. this will clean the inlet and around the valves and combustion chamber. do this as the first thing on your service, before fitting new spark plugs.
2. oil system. drain old oil, refil with new oil but cheap stuff, run for 20 mins, drain that oil completely, refill with new good stuff.

You will find that Tesco fuel is Texaco, Asda and Sainsburys are BP I believe.

im going to upset Dave here i think-
Molyslip is an oil adative- it does actually work-
my dad spoke to the guy who has major involvement in the manufacture, development, testing and distribution of this stuff and spoke about the decrease in engine running temperatures and gearbox running temperatures that was tested in a ford focus and a volvo in some deserts somewhere-
tested with and without the adative the results were highly noticeable- gearbox ran at i think 5 degrees less - cant remember what engine did.
the adative also eliminates alot of friction from metal to metal moving parts.
this chemical is actually used in GTX Maganatec and is the same product really-
it also eliminates to a point the damage that is done by starting your car everytime from unlubricated parts as this stuff actually sticks to the metal so to speak (but there is more science to it than that)
if anyone want to know anything else then i will go further in to it but it will take some explaining.
you can buy the oil adative and gearbox oil adative from halfords
please dont reply to this thread by saying its crap etc and it doesn't work unless you actually know about it, what it does and why it does it.
this product is nothing like the other crap addatives on the markets such as STP or Wynns

but willhouse, that is what I was saying, If you use good oil to start with then theres no need to add anything to it.
and yes JR it does pink a bit while the carb cleaner is burning off but I was trying to make the point that its ok to do but pointless anyway as the carbon build up will be back in no time at all anyway

but putting the molyslip in magnatec or anyother good oil just increases its protection for the engine.
no matter how good the oil is its not going to protect your engine on start up when there is no oil flowing straight away-molyslip does work on start up as it stays coated to metal components and decreases friction, wear and damage to parts on start up and also while it is running.
if it wasn't any good it would'nt go in my dads ferrari.
