Says its packed with policemen and dogs, reckons there is about 60 of them, andshe missed a train cos she wasn't allowed to get on without a ticket and arn't allowed on the platform without one. Sounds slightly dodgy to me!

I always buy my tickets on the train, saves me having to get their early to get one and also saves me paying if no one comes down the train to ask me for the money!

The moral of the story is that the station is packed with police, quite a considerable amount as though something serious has/is going on.

But what if you buy your ticket & noone comes round to check ? waste of money. They do this at Nottingham make you pay before you enter the station, you just go round the back & you get on for free.

Na, all I'm saying is that you are meant to pay before you baord the train as some people are saying you don't. Most of the stations have turnstyles to get through too now... It's not really a waste of money, you're meant to pay for the service you use.

Only the very big stations stop you going on the platform

Depends on the station and train type. Can get on mainlines in liverpool lime street and euston alot of the time and no-one checks, but you can just buy one if they do anyway. Our local underground you if you get on a train without a ticket it, there's an instant £20 fine

My local train station there is only somebody there from about 8am till lunch time. Once he's gone home you've got no choice but to buy it on the train.
I buy tickets on the train quite regularly, never had a problem getting on without one.
