Has to get me 1500 miles - and i dont have to spend the £1k all on the car
So say £500 on car then £200 on suspension etc
Headed to the "RING" so ideally something with a decent engine that will last
Fire away lads

judging by that then, you dont really have a preference on which wheels are driven?
is it your first ring trip? have you any experience of RWD?

To be honest no. Driving will be shared from Scotland to the ring (and back hopefully)
RWD would be good, but neither of us have experience with it nor the knowledge of BMWs/JAP Cars

hmmm, i would fancy risking getting to grips with a slippy slidy RWD car on a notorious track.
XR4x4i would be my weapon of choice.
or an Escort RS2000 Mk5

a 106 xsi could also be a good shout, if you have only a grand i reckon you need something that handles good anyway then you can spend rest of the money servicing your banger!

The idea is dont HAVE to spend £1k on the car
Can if you want but ideally i'd rather keep it quite cheap then invest in some decent suspension

106 is a good choice, but would you want to drive it 1500 miles?

the ring is a bit of a fashion statement isnt it
Why do folk go all that way to try a bit of track action. Would be better to get on track in the UK then head over there once you are sure of the car/your limits etc

Safest bet.
E30s can be a little naughty for the uninitiated, and 205s, despite being cracking fun little cars are French and FWD.
