sorry if this has been asked before but im bored, cant sleep
anyway last week had a straight line race from 2nd gear off a rounderbout with a gsi corsa vs my lil 1.4 16v, overtook a car, pulled in and expected him to fly past, by now in 4th and he just crawls past and just gets in front of me after about a mile, only mods are lightened fly wheel and panel filter????

A 1.6 16v isnt going to fly past a 1.4 16v any day of the week. theres only like 15-20bhp difference. The 1.6 will be faster of course but it wont be a lightening difference. You'd need a 2.0 before it would be anything close to 'flying past' to be honest.

i no, didnt mean fly past, but go a bit fasted than it did, and it looked modified (dont no bout engine) once i get my 4 branch, decat and system on i recon i could of kept up with him, that should give me about 10bhp i reckon

4 branch decat and system will gain about 4 bhp at higher revs if you are lucky.
its the inlet that is restrictive, not the exhaust

got the inlet, but going to fit the exhaust firsts, i think 10bhp is quite easy acheviable

you might get your 10 bhp from the exhaust once you have fitted the inlet,
if there isnt a great deal of air going in because of a restrictive inlet there is no gases to let back out through the exhaust
the exhaust and inlet will both complement each other quite well.

you wont get 10bhp from a decat manifold and system.
You'l also lose midrange torque

Difference is in the bottom end of the engine.
X16 would be marginal. But i remember a good old blat between myself, another oldie Paul Watson on the M25. Neck and neck (both X14), nothing in it, got in his slipstream and pulled back, pulled into the middle lane and smiled as i just scraped past, only to have a standard GSi (Donna) with an extra passanger come flying past the pair of us.
X16 won't be as great, but the C16 pulls better through all gears.
You won't get 10bhp from those modifications. Filter - De-cat + straight through system only made 6bhp increase on the rollers. Manifold won't do much more.
Have it re-mapped again and you should see around 10bhp though. An exhaust on its own won't give another 10bhp though.
Also, don't forget, i've you have had to pull in front of the GSi, he would have had to come off throttle where-as your still on it, its going to take x time to get the momentum back up and pass hence looking like he's crawling past you.

its not F1 FFS wether you try and 'slipstream' someone or not, in a 1400 its not going to make any difference at all.

I raced Jambo in his 1.4 16v and absolutely destroyed him when I had my GSi, he did have 17's though and I was on standard wheels.

Yup, i forgot, you was there. I forgot, CS members are everywhere.
Nope, slipstreaming doesn't work at all over 100mph does it....... Nope, it never happened at all, its all a myth.... Im lying to get internet cool points.
F1 goes on circuits with vmax of a 1 mile straight. M25 is a little longer than that. They also cut through the air leaving a lot less of a gap in the air compared to a bargy corsa or anything thats not got lines, fins and is designed to cut through the air.
And when going uphill, power and torque differences are much more shown than on the flat, there-for, if you can get into the thinner air behined a car, uphill, with the same spec, you WILL pull it in if your close enough to start with.
Yes it does make a difference, and yes it did make a difference at the time. You calling Donna a lier also?

oooh bit touchy
slipstreaming at 100+ mph in a 1.4 corsa will make as much differnce as using optimax in a robin reliant.

Not touchy, its just you can say 1 thing on here and always get someone say otherwise.
Cyclists can slipstream other cyclists, and its makes a difference. At much lower speeds, and on a smaller level, but it happens.
Two of the same car, same wheel size, same engines, going uphill, can slipstream each other. It will also make a fair bit of difference as the engines starting to be pushed at that level and is starting to run out of puff, any removal of resistance against the front of the car will aid it.
And thats what happened. Over about a mile (after travelling at the same speed), i gained around 5 car lengths and by the time id pulled out, i carried on the momentum and gained around 1 car length in front.
Donna on the other hand came past the pair of us like she wasn't even trying. It was quite gutting Us two flat out, passed by a girl....

one small question csweatherston, were you going backwards? no i'm only joking. i had a similar embarassing experience, my aim was to cruise past what i thought was a c-sxi, only for it to turn out to be an sri, gutted
i've never honestly raced a 1.4 so wouldnt know the difference. "apparently" speed wise the 1.6 astra is similar to a 1.4 corsa, my mate was behind me in a 1.6 astra at some traffic lights and i left him without too much trouble tbh.
*DISCLAIMER* i don't actually know that the 1.6 astra is the same as the 1.4 corsa, please don't bite my head off

driver ability has alot to do with it. iv had some 'fun' with 1.4 corsas before.....i laughed at them in my rear view mirror
