My brother is doing Sports/Recreation at college and we got in to a coversation about protein drinks
He recommended 3 raw eggs with 1/2 a pint of milk a day. I'm a little dubious but have been on it for a week now and i dont have that gym "strain" after as much
Anyone else opinions?

Is this a windup?
a sports/recreation course doesnt make your brother a nutritionist or a medical professional.
raw eggs can be dangerous, milk is loaded with lactose.
sports nutrition has come a long way since rocky balboa downing 10 raw eggs then going for a run.

Even if it was safe to consume, the amount of fat in that little lot would takes an age for protein to digest efficiently

dude are you for real?
effectively if you train correctly you are breaking down the fibres in your muscles which then hypertrophy and grow back stronger/bigger.
all this 'shit' as you put it is neccessary for muscle growth and repair. Sure you can get all the nutrients you need from food, but trying whacking in 150g protein a day just from food, not easy especially if you are out and about, working etc.

sure you cant go wrong supplementing with extra protein tbh.
im not one for usually throwing figures around, been training on and off for 10 years now and ive kinda got used to listening to my body.
jake might correct me here but i think an ideal amount of protein to support muscle growth and repair is 1.5lbs per lb of bodyweight i think. if you google it will probably get a more precise figure but i cba lol.
point is you can work your ass of in the gym till your bleeding lol, but if the nutrtional support is not there you will just be running yourself into the ground.

Nutrition is said to be something like 70% part to training. Thats why i struggle so much to develop because of my poor diet. I choose Nutrition as an optional module in my degree this year, looking forward to it, hopefully learn a bit.
Also thought about doing my disertation on in but not sure how to measure it, thought about investigating whether eating shit food and training is better than hardly eating and training. But like i say, how the hell i'd do/measure that i don't know!

I've always stuck by that protein rule, Mark. Your last comment is spot on, i can never stress that enough when i speak to people about training.

I got carried away when I very first started on the weights, mainly because my mates were getting giddy about training, as we matured and grew older and wiser, I took it up again in a serious way, healthy diet, taking time to listen to people with the experience and not just listening to any old gimp who liked to hear themselves chat.
I used to work with a guy called Carn Davies, used to do comps around UK and his dad was pretty high up the 'respect' ladder of UK bodybuilders, he once said to me "I will help you if you want it, but if something I tell you isn't working, let me know and don't be afraid to say my method is rubbish".
Needless to say I enjoyed training with him for 3years I got to how I wanted to be and now I just keep myself fit and healthy, I'm happy being 12st, I'm not massive but I aint a scrawny thing neither.
I think it's just a case of trial and error, see what works and just keep varying your training routines.

ditto, quite pricey at 35quid a tub but it does seem to be high quality stuff and mixes easily with water and tastes nice with milk, good way for some slow release protein at night time
