Went to one of them electrical stores today to go and get a new Zen as my Walkman got stolen when I was on holiday by some bloody french........
Go in the shop and ask the guy where the Creative Zen's are and if I could have a look at one of them. He then said they are over here, but then started chatting some crap about an iPod and how they are the best ever. I asked him in what way are they the best. He told me that they were the best selling MP3 player in the shop to which I told him that doesn't make it the best. He was chatting all this crap to me trying to hard sell the iPod to me. The Creative is more fecking expensive and these twats get paid commision in those shops.
Do Apple pay people comission for selling these stupid pieces of crap or what, it seems everywhere I go people want me to buy a fucking iPod and they are possibly the worst pieces of jun on the market ever  Apple, go fuck yourself.

The way they store the music on them is too complex. In the days of the first MP3 players all you did was drag and drop your songs onto them. Why can't you do that to an iPod? Why does all the music have to be converted into iPod format?
Why is the term used for MP3 player now iPod? If they were the best then fine, but the have serious flaws in them - namely iTunes.

I think mean they are overpriced and your paying for the name/image etc..
The zen and few other on the market for the same price as an ipod generally have more features and get more for your money etc..

I had an Archos AV440 before. However, the AV440 broke, and they replaced it with the AV740, which is huge and therefore not much of a personal MP3 player. They then replaced it with a 60gb iPod video, which is much better than the other two, easier to use and theres a lot more support and accessories available for it.
Why do you think that they're so bad?

ed, i agree with you that the ipod is more of a status/fashion symbol, but you have got some facts wrong -
- all portable devices will scratch, the nano is the worse offender though with the scratchable screen
- Agree that itunes is shit, but you CAN drag and drop MP3s (yes you can use mp3s aswell as mp4s/wma etc) and there are plenty of third party tools that allow you to transfer songs on to ipods, can even get a plugin for winamp!
-Construction will be exactly the same as any other mp3, the have profit margins to keep to and they will always look for the cheapest possible route to manufacture a product
However, there are better players than the zen, especially in terms of audio quality - MP3 Player Audio Test, Very loose round up.
Personal preference on creative though is that there hardware is wank - they bullcack on figures with there stuff (ie: The audigy WONT do 96Khz and upsamples everything) and when i borrowed my mates a little while ago i wasnt impressed.
But it is personal choice i suppose....

Still haven't decided yet. Didn't even get a chance to look at the damn Creative I would get another Sony, but they have gone all iPod on me and don't let you drag and drop MP3's onto them anymore

Sony IS one of the players that you'll struggle to copy stuff to it without using the seriously buggy and dodgy software - mate got the HD5 but sent it back and replaced it with the zen. But the hardware is suppose to be a lot lot better than any other player out there.
Saying that, i have a feeling there is another piece of software you can use with the sony players that isnt as bad as the cack that ships with it

My Sony lasted 20 hours. It actually did too which was amazing as it's what it said on the box.

I did the firmware update on it to allow it to play MP3's rather than .OGG files. The Connect software was no better than the iTunes software. The old software used to be like Windows Media, but for Sonys which was awesome for me.

With regards to the salesman, Currys used to have incentives on certain products, say £10 per iPod sold or something, might have been why he was trying to sell it to you.
I'll admit i've not tried a creative Zen, i got an iPod Mini, that lasted 1 year 2 months before the stereotypical battery fault kicked in.
Just bought an iPod nano of a mate for £50 as i needed a cheap portable device, and got no problems with that so far.
iPod's are generally fashion accesories, so people buy them, they were the first real music players to come along, so everyone wanted one, and still do.
iTunes is a horrible program, i hate the fucking thing, would have been so much easier to make it drag and drop.

ive got a creative zen vision m 30g and my mum had got the ipod video 30g, imo the zen is better, the screen is a little clearer and the battery lasts alot longer and its easier to load music onto it,
but imo the best mp3 player is the iriver h10, i use to have the 5g one and loved it,

I think ipods are great, ive not got one yet & didnt bother much about them until all my mates started tossing out the huge hifi's & CD collection & replacing with 30GB ipod + docking station.
Seems easy enough to use & well enough made etc
