i have always been told that super market fuel is dirty and to steer clear

but why do some people claim Optimax/v power is the better choice over std unleaded

No its not. If you don't own a turbocharged car, or maybe a n/a sporty engine then its pointless using it. Yes, it will be a rip off in a Corsa.

Optimax/V-Power was designed specifically for turbocharged cars to get the best out of them. Ocatane rating is now 99 Ron which is going to cause a greater spark thus generating more horsepower. Apart from the additives and cleaning agents these aren't really going to be of benefit to a regular car.

So you would not recommend v power for use with an xe'd corsa

or to re-word that, will i notice a difference with a corsa xe, is it worth me bothering

You may benefit from the cleaning agents, but then ruglar Shell unleaded has these. Personally unless the XE is tuned I can't see a benefit. No doubt someone will correct me though!

i have to use it too

if i dont the timing starts to go out.

if you own a corsa and havent changed the octane plug it will make no ounce of difference.

If you own any car and the car is mapped and timing running for 95 ron you wont notice an ounce of difference

Is you engine tuned Steve? I can tell you for a fact that VAG 1.8t engine runs perfectly fine on standard unleaded.

v power has been out in europe for years, 100 ron, optimax was the uk version, 98 ron.

v power is the new name, so the shell range is the same over europe, except its just 99 ron.

so a friend who used to work for shell tells me.

yes its running 21 psi, or course a std 1.8t vag engine runs fine, and even a mapped 1.8t will appear to run fine, its only when you hook up vagcom and log the CF values that you can see how the timing is being retarded and the ecu pulling back

you lose a good 5bhp from using the incorrect fuel in a remapped car

I filled up with V power yesterday too. No noticeable difference over optimax though.

And I HAVE to use it to as my car has to run on 98+ RON fuel.

I use it in the Astra, TBH my engine seems to run better with it, and I get better fuel economy too (I have proven this).
