I had a trackday on saturday at Snetterton. The VX220's had a national meet and it was being used for some testing for the sundays TunerGP. Took a cam, got a few pictures and some vids.

Started off on the 1st session with only 3 other cars, got my lines sorted and learned how the car handles at high speed cornering. Left everythign for dead, good start.. Took my other half out in my 2nd session and she picked up the lines and where to go. Had some fun chasing some VX220's, they had me out the slow speed corners and i'd have them back every time under braking and the fast corners.

Finished that, then came in and gave the car a nice rest. Around 11.30 I had booked an instructor to go over things and after a few tweeks to my braking (i.e hard load under cornering) i was pretty much done, the guy was pretty impressed with everything else I was doing, my first "proper" track day was going great.

Next up came the missis, the orgenisors had setup a women only session, however she was quite nervous. After a few "mad laps" she got to pickup and feel how taking the right lines and braking points really can make a car more stable and faster. By the end of the hour session (only pulled in for go go juice) she had left all the other women. Even caught up to lap a VX220 and she the 220 spun in front of us  . I was dead pleased with the missis, seriously, she would have put a fair few of the VXR and 220 male drivers to shame! She also learnt a lot.

I had a few more lengthy sessions in the afternoon, (more fuel, super unleaded this time) and by the end i was just about keeping up with the VX220 "true" track boys. Blowing my own trumpet here, but i was fecking flying, I only had the tuner GP Lotus's come past when on I was on flying laps. I was catching other cars hand over fist..

Even got caught behined a VXR with Stage 2, he'd leave me every time down the straights by a good 20 car lengths (by this time i was on unleaded fuel, loosing about 6-7mph down the straights from the morning sessions), but come the corners, i was seriously having to watch my braking as the guy just braked so early (or me just so late )... Im just taking the right lines and was coming through the corners so much quicker, but the bloke wouldn't let me bloody pass... Seriously cheesing me off as i was so much faster. Not only that, then a few laps later I got caught behined another VX220 same thing, just wouldn't let me pass, really wasted about 12 laps of fuel and some hearty moments under braking (as not to ram them  ).

Astra was hitting about 125ish mph at the end of Revitt straight, got my braking for the esses down to about 100 meters/yards (white markers on vids).

Spent £48 on Optimax, it lasted 110 miles Then another £30 on Super Un, gone, then another £30 on normal unleaded.. All in 1 day  It just drinks opti but it flies, less performance on Super, but slightly more miles, and less performance and more miles with unleaded. Learnt how hard the standard VXR can be pushed and how much the brakes can take. Being standard, it didn't miss a beat all day, it really does inspire confidence and make my corsa feel like a whale.

LOVED it, will be doing more track days for sure!!!! SO much more fun than some ned trying to race you on the road... Its fun, but tracking is by far the way forward... Anyone in for a combined land purchase and track build?

Sunday was the Tuner GP, but i was pretty dissapointed with the cars running, I just wanted to get back on track myself and see how quick I could get a timed lap in aginst the competition

Pics, vids uploading and at the bottom. Car is 100% standard.

Nery and waiting for first session..

Coming through..

Saw this go bang coming down to Russells, flames were about 1.5x the car length out the back.. Serious big time blow, but he kept it on track. Spoke to owner, little end went, all the heat proofing as singed, they were swapping a new engine etc over but I never saw it on track the next day..

The "others"

600bhp Supercharge Maloo, big fark off turbo'd import in green..

The company is offering Monaro's with 500bhp, 500lb ft supercharged engine, with full warranty for £35k!!! (M5 power for £35k??!!!!!??)

The "enemy"

Didn't take many pics on Sunday, but this was simply stunning!!!!!!!! I dribbled and a little wee came out i think

Drifters wern't too impressive, but its really not the track for it IMO.. There were a few good drivers though.

Few more pics...

Mav, yeah, looked quite tidy. No Focus ST's out on track though

Willay, yours is a 2.0? Standard outside? After hooning around yesterday, i have no confidence in my corsa, its ok, its fun, but the astra is SO much faster round the bendies...

Go on track man, my other half was scared stiff. It was only meant to be 30 min for the women, but it turned into an hour, and once she got the lines right, I couldn't get her back in She loved it, cool, theres our excuss for another one

Jules, superb picture, went big style!! Did you get any more pictures? Can't see any on vx220.org?

ja, 2ltr, H&R coilovers (got some ledas to go on in a few weeks), 15s, whiteline arb. Come on.. I'd expect a car produced 20 years after mine and not fucked around with in a dusty old barn in essex to be quite good over the corsa

Still got loads of road experience to get out of the way imho, and soon as I'm 110% happy with how its running then I'll let it loose for some majory track fuckery.

I just meant the quality of the ride over my own car fella, comparing the two, its amzing the difference on track performance (other than flat out speed).

Agreed, get it running right on the road before you go for track.

Jules, how can i reply to that post? I've signed up but it won't let me reply? Anything you can suggest? Thanks.
