Once iv gotten a bit of experience with the machine polisher, iv got a few cars to practice on from old and dull to faded to metallic etc, thinking about advertising paint restoration and rejuvinating and doing cars in my village for a small fee then building up with experience and advertising in my whole area.

What are peoples thoughts? I cannot see any other type of business in my area apart from valeters who just wash/hover cars etc.

Am i getting myself into something thats too over my head, or something that requires years of experience?

I understand that you need to know what you are doing as you can go through the paint etc, but i think practicing on these older cars and mine i should be able to build up the techniques quite quickly

S'pose if you charged £50 for a full car and could do it in an hour or 2 then you're on a winner.

Do some in-depth market research mate and go from there.

There is no reason you couldn't do it but you'd need to earn a comfortable income, so may need to offer more than a buff

i will keep m full time job for now and do this eve's/wkends then onyl move into full time if it takes off

would you not need insurance, just incase it went wrong? that would be quite pricey would it not?

Deffo look into it mate, but remember to cover all base's, as Rob just said might need Insurance etc as well.

you'd have to do full valeting too, just mopping wouldnt be enough demand for a proper job.

or, you could do something like window cleaning as well, for when its quiet.

good ideas and i can already do this, have expertise on hand polishing/claying etc

Restoration. so if sum1 has faded paintwork etc, i would look into spraying as well.

IT'd definitely be worth looking into Steve, but like Jason said, you really need to do some proper market research, as £50 is far too cheap...

I know a lad who does full valeting, takes your car, leaves you with his, takes him a whole day, and he charges £160 quid. he makes a packet, he's never quiet, because he gives special deals to local companies.

wouldnt go near spraying, oxidised paint work doesnt need spraying anyway unless its extremely badly gone and rusted

The guys on Detailing World will be able to help you with this.

VERY specialised market, your average joe would rather pay £5 and go to the local hand-wash. MOST people don't care about spider-webbing!

IMO, far to much seasonal variation... too risky... + need huge public liabilty style insurance to cover for damage to customers!
