Prosecutors said Pc Milton, described as " the creme de la creme" of police drivers, had also driven at 131mph on a nearby A-road.

Theres plenty of test cicuits and closed roads, no need to do it on a public highway and endanger other people.

They have training for this, if its ok for a police officer to speed that much just because he wanted to see what the car could do , and that he thought it was safe, why cant everybody.

And how many tests do you think the governemnt fund?

TBH im with Colin on this. So what if he did do 160? Just because someone drives fast doesnt automatically mean they blow up or suck small kids from their beds into the intakes. He was testing the car, hes a trained police driver (better than most!) and if he were on an autobahn in germany (lower accident rate than uk) then he wouldnt of broken the law.

Our speed limits are outdatted as much as our way of thinking.

He was trying to help be a better police officer, now he has no job so people can put 20mph signs everywhere in the misguided beleif that speed is the alon cause of accidents.

the point is, whether or not it was safe to do that speed, if it were one of us we would have had the book thrown at us, you cannot have one rule for joe public and another for an off duty police officer.

I really dont think he was trying to be a better policeman, i just think he wanted to see how fast he could go for the thrill of it. Laws shouldnt change from prossession to proffession.

What if army people just went into a random field and started shooting, there are proper places to test things like this.

No thats not the point.

If he was with a bunch of his mates showing off i couldnt agree more. If he was testing it its a completely different matter.

When was the last time you were "testing" the capabilites of your car? For law enforcement properties?

We wouldnt as were not police officers, nor would we have the same driver training as him.

I see what you mean, but thats the problem, he wasnt doing it to "show off" it was for OUR safety and his own!

Agreed, Edd, the point im trying to make, is everyone is their own worst enemy when it comes to things like this. You all automatically assume that hes a cunt as hes a policeman, and MUST be breaking the law. Why? Feeling pissed as they puleld you over? got caught speeding? This doesnt mean hes a criminal.

Im not sure how to explain what i mean, but essentially hes a trained driver dirivng fast testing his equipment. I am sure other coppers can use it as an excuse, but if they were a half decent copper they wouldnt drive recklessly. And IMO just because he did 159mph doesnt mean he is reckless!!

I would like to point out also the number of people on internet forums such as this who have claimed top speeds near this figure. None have lost their livelyhoods.
