Ok, following on from my other thread http://www.corsasport.co.uk/board/viewthread.php?tid=299400

Golf 1.8 Turbo's - Any good or not?

Parkers says 8.2 to 60, seems pretty shitty, does that mean that 106gti's eat them

Still really fancy a change, went from wanting an XE corsa to a 106gti, then to a Fiat Coupe Turbo, and now to a Golf Turbo.

Really like the look of the Golfs and they seem to hold their value well. I know a couple of people on here own them and was just seeing how they perform in the "real world" because I always take Parkers with a pinch of salt

That's a negative straight away. I prefer it to be aggressive when the turbo kicks in

S'really pissin me off this now. I really really really want to get a new car, but want something different rather than just buying another scooby or somethin

0-60 time is quoted with half load and tank of fuel. Most VW sites/magazines quote them as 7.3sec, which isn't too bad.

I dunno, I found the handling to be like a blomange and it definatley suffered from turbo lag. Which is odd because the turbo comes in at 1800rpm! Went alright once on the move though.

Id rather have the GT TDI 150 tbh, and fit anniversary kit and R32 alloys, slammed.

THey're quicker than that. VAG are known to make their cars actually look slower than they are to reduce insurance etc.

They go very nicely..especially the 180bhp versions, easy to get more bhp out of them aswell.

Average re-map is around £400 for a stage 1 conversion, i.e. just an ecu remap, normally get it around 30-40bhp more.

My mate has a 51plate golf turbo and he reckons his is 300bhpish??????? He has never proved it but even so, it looks smart as fook, black with black wheels and polished rim, Slammed and exhuast system! Really nice car, made me concider one for my next car, just not sure if his middle name is "Billy Bullsh1t"

i have one, its not fast, not going to be with 150bhp and a car thats well put together, chip it and you can see the better side of 200bhp and it changes the car totally.

mine as it stands had vis kit, blue flame cat back and a chip, not driven it since its been chipped so cant comment on it, but it is a good car, well built, well spec'd and can get a decent one for 5k now, early engines are better if thats any use
