Moved house a few weeks ago, keep finding dirty pictures around the house
Put in a safe place then forgotten about, just found some in insulation in the loft

Anyway theres quite a bit of space up the loft so was thinking about converting it into a room, although the joists are only 3" so i know they wont support a whole lot, would they be ok to support a temporary room if no heavy furniture was taken up? (if there are any builders on here just assuming here)

you'd need to know exactly how much loads they can take

wouldn't want the roof falling down

as for the loft conversion, It depends on the property. as long as you panel over the joists with a strong ply it should be fine as the joists are supported by the dividing walls below. dont try and put anything heavy up there though, in newer houses lofts are designed for storage rather than a structual room.

from what i know, you need planning permission now if it is going to be used as a bedroom. you also need a means of escape e.g. skylight.
if the rafters look like they are only 3x2 timber, you will need to go accross them with at least 4x2 timbers (so you would loose roughly 5"of height in your loft.
if you are only going to store boxes up there, you may get away with just using some of that chipboard flooring

But if your not getting planning permission do it

Well said that man.

In a house 10 years old its highly unlikely any of the internal walls will be load bearing......and trusses like those shown are designed to use the minimal amount of timber to take the roof dead and live loads.

Light storage only
