If I was considering buying one I'd have to test drive one for myself and see if it was fine for what I used it for on the road.
Would probably find that its fine on the road for most peoples driving as you wouldn't be pushing it as hard as you would if you were going round a track.

If you turn the stability control. IDS and everything else off - thats what you get.
They did it with the Astra VXR as well to make it look "loony"
I can understand turning TC off on the track but really neither car handles bad in the real world.

Sorry havent looked in o/d today
Exactly, any front wheel drive with that amount of power with t/c switched off is bound to push on.
clarkson does seem to have a real hatred for vauxhall, the modeo did look tasty, but even if it was cack he would have praised it over the vectra....

To be honest its probably a fair point, I think the stig gave it a fair run and the results say it all, but anyone who wants a fast car to throw around a track isnt going to buy a brand new vectra vxr. I can imagine its good on motorways.

Thing is, what are you going to see more of?
VXR or mondeo? The real winner will be which one people buy! Itl be the vauxhall!

Jimmy its impossible. Nothing is faster than a CTR, only a CTR from japan with an LSD could beat one

i never said nothing is faster than a CTR did i? just pointing out that if the vectra with its "the worst chassis on a car i've ever driven" (clarkson quote), can still do the lap quicker than a CTR thats reasonably quick with a so called good chassis. the vectra can't all be that bad

How many people who buy those sorts of cars regardless of it being the VXR, would drive them the way he drove it round that track?

I'd honestly like to know your point? The cars are in totaly different classes so you cant really say anything. One has a 2.8L 24v V6 Turbo. One has a 2.0L 16v I4 N/A. Not really rocket science there is it. Even with all the extra power and torque its was still only 1.2 seconds faster than a CTR. More so considering theres cars with less power ahead of the Vectra VXR that are in the same class (like the Mondeo ST)

I haven't seen it yet Jamie, but if your talking about the Stig, and judging by previous examples of the track exploits on Top Gear, i'd say...
...me for one.
