18-21 year olds is £4.45 but going down to £4.35 in october

over 22 is £5.20

quote:

The British Chamber of Commerce (BCC) has studied the implications of increasing the minimum wage from £5.05 to £5.35. They found that employment in the 'distribution, hotels and restaurants' sectors fell by 39,000 in the first three quarters of 2005. Given the worsening trends in the UK labour market, they would recommended the 2006 National Minimum Wage increase should only be to £5.20 rather than £5.35; this would have given an increase of just 3%, which would still be 1% above the Government's 2% CPI target. For those aged 18-21 they recommended that the October 2006 increase should have been scaled back from £4.45 to £4.35, which would have given an increase of some 2.4%, still above the CPI target.
