and me and my friend are of different opinions. the boy who smashed his mums Audi TT into a pram with no license etc should have got the death penalty imo. she begs to differ saying that could be a bit harsh what does anyone else thing of extreme cases like this?

no that is extremely harsh.
not even manslaughter, so the death penalty is too extreme.
should get a life sentence's worth of driving ban, however long that is. (30 years?)

well mate he never had a license anyway so whats gonna stop him doing it again? I think if he was stupid enough to drive without a license anyway he should be tried for murder. The speeds he was driving we're just asking for trouble and he got it, and imo he should have his life taken as well

I think the death penalty is quite extreme for offences like that. It should given to multiple murders and murdering children etc etc.
Driving ban might not work as you can still drive while banned (not legally, of course).
I also think (stay with me on this one) that people who kill should be made to view the funeral (with request of the berived) so that they can see what damage and hurt they have caused.

why do you think it's fair that he be tried for murder when he didn't murder anyone?
punishment has to fit the crime.
some jail time for causing death by dangerous driving + the other offences associated with not being licensed plus a hefty ban and fine should see it right.

was there a baby in the pram? was the baby killed?
Blame could also be put on the mother.

I think thats a good idea. But that won't bring back the child that was cruelly taken away by a person who knew what he was doing but did it anyway. Thats like saying someone walked about with a gun, not knowing he would shoot someone with it though. (but extreme I know) My beliefs may seem harsh but I believe that if you take a life through fault of you're own then you're life should be taken as well

yeh the baby was killed. I don't think the mother could be blamed tbh because he came along at insane speeds and after hitting the pram smashed through a park fence where more children could have been playing

this needs clauses.
it was obviously an accident. the kid didn't think 'i'll take my mums car for a joyride and try to kill a baby'.
what if you ran someone over when your tax or mot had just run out? does the same still apply? you'd be driving illegally, so is it the same thing?

he was already banned from driving. that speaks for itself really he seems to think he's above the law. And this time he wasn't so lucky. In the report it says he would have saw the mother and child from 220 metres away but only started braking 25 away! that I think is shocking and his lack of care for anyone else cost a child her life

I doubt I'd drive while banned though mate, and if I saw a woman waking across the road with her child from 220 metres, I'd brake from 220 metres

Thats assuming you did enough to get banned, or had the audacity to get in another car ever again having been so.

I think they should make a seperate offenders institue for driving related offences, one it frees up the jails of petty crime offenders and two it wouldnt be as harsh as prison but would certainly shock you into not doing again, whilst in there they can learn about the dangers of teh road and awreness etc.

you'd be happy paying for him to go to criminal school for the next 60 years?
don't orget where the money comes from for his food, clothes, bed, wages if he works in there, not to mention the jail itself which we'd need increasing amounts of to be built if you go jailing people for life for petit crimes like that.
suppose you may get some work spraying the new jails though

you honestly think he should basically get away with it he killed here, maybe no direct intent but his actions show he obv didnt care... we need degrees of murder like in the US, then it would deffo be murder!

i'd like to see yank definitions of murder, but even they wouldn't class this as murder surely.
