Got closed a few days ago...
Just had an email from the company....
Hi Anthony,
Unfortunately Heart Internet does not allow downloads. A full copy of our terms and conditions can be viewed at:-
http://www.heartinternet.co.uk/termshi.shtml
Specifically:-
"23.2 Web hosting accounts are prohibited from hosting file distribution websites (including but not limited to music, video and software), adult content orientated websites, hosting banners, graphics or cgi scripts for other websites, storing pages, files or data as a repository for other websites or personal computers, giving away web space under a domain, sub domain or director
High data transfer sites are very processor and resource intensive and this can have a significant impact on other customers hosted on the same server as yourself.
Best Wishes
Richard Newsham

Processor intensive
If anything, a download is less intensive than dynamic stuff like db lookups etc.
You are probably affecting their bandwidth bill though. CS has moved off hosts for this reason. Once for doing more bandwidth than Tranmere Rovers at one company, then for accounting for a quarter of all the traffic in the next.
How much you passing/paying out of interest?

have you already paid up front? If not, move domain and hosting to a different company.
Otherwise, i would phone your solicitor and get him involved - as you arnt "hosting file distributin" (yes they spelt it wrong), you simply show casing material and that it is very unprofessional of them to supply "unlimited bandwidth" yet you cant host files, seems odd
Sounds like they are reseller and havnt got efficent gear to supply half decent hosting, would move eitherway.
blatant plug but - www.i-websolutions.co.uk - small company (run by a few guys, sound fellas though), cheap yet hosted in the UK and if you email them first with requirements they will help you out the best they can

It's not even that much, but it;s the fact that when I bought it I bout the proffessional package, the most expensive package they had cos I knew I'd be using a fair bit of bandwidth!..... think it's something silly like £75 a year, but the price was the thing that attractged me to them!!! and it was advertised at unlimited bandwdth.... none of this.... oh our limit is 10000 a month and you are already at 10567 in 2 weeks of this new month shit!!!

If they've advertised unlimited and you've paid up, tell them you want what you paid for
If they've used the word 'unmetered' then they could rely on a clause like they have. Unlimited though means exactly that - there is no limit.

well for starters there isnt such thing as "unlimited" bandwidth and its a marketing ploy to get people like you to get there card out and pay for someone holiday to the bahamas Secondly you should have read the terms&cond., just skim over it and read the things that are important like bandwidth, usage etc.
Saying that, it sounds like they arnt even cut out for handling a small site let alone "professional" business sites, i would find some review hosting websites and splash about how cack they are.
Like i say though, google about and see what can be done, but in future dont go for cheap and cheerful as there is usually a catch with them
btw, you know what your bandwidth usuage was? Also what sort of stuff were you hosting - full length mixes (70mins etc)?

ian - it states unlimited, nothing about it being metered, not metered or otherwise. Surely they can't rely on there terms&cond with that like you say?
Could ant get his solicitor involved as its false advertising for starters
btw, its a reseller company hosted with Easynet (i believe)....

The email I got was...
Hi,
Your data transfer (bandwidth) limit for the package djantd.info is 10000. This has now been exceeded, and the current usage for this month is 10156.
This hosting package has now been automatically suspended, and will be re-activated at the start of the next month. In the meantime, you may want to contact our sales team to arrange upgrading your package.
Best Wishes
Heart Internet Automated Systems
But I'd already emailed customer services with the emails posted above before I read this email...

Email them back saying according to the email you have a limit of 10GB, yet the package you order and i quote (from website) that it is Unlimited! Then say its breech of false advertising and that you will be seeking legal advice as its misguidence for the public (or some like that)....
Its wrong that they say they are unlimited yet you have a 10GB cap, would be cheaper off and probably better to go to the package below as its 50GB limit there

The download limit is not a problem though, that I could deal with, it;s them telling me I have to delete my mp3s... all they are is like 30 min mixes at medium quality.... nothing too harsh!!

They will probably just discard your reply since you put it like that, maybe a bit more suttle and they might have listened?

A few years back I had a site hosted by Lycos. It got banned without warning. A friend of mine claimed to know someone that worked for lycos and found out why it had been removed. I got given a copy of the complaint made to lycos. Apparently my site featured dead teddy bears and was distressing, and sick.....

Shame as I lost my HD soon after and I only had a few vids and images backed up so that was the end of bear killers.

they emailed back saying I'd agreed to these terms and cond's.....
I sent one back saying I would lock them down and create a player so people can't save the files..... it's the distribution they don't like.

Take your business elsewhere. Pipex or Webfusion have always been good for me, we have a few sites that stream high res videos with them...
