Well none of the manufacturers would allow crash damage in a computer game, which glorifies their cars. This is a pointless, yet amusing exercise which batters brand new cars until they're right offs! Yeah, 5 a side.

because toyota gave them 10 cars last year, and probably sold an extra 5000 because of it, so VW jumped at the chance to give them 5 to advertise their new car

cheap advert for them though, works out better than long term testing in a magazine, when thy find faults and stuff

you see the cars on the TV and then if you're looking for a small new car, you think "oh, that toyota aygo looked nippy and agile when it was on TG"

and its entertaining

It's not like it costs them much to make the cars. The major cost in cars is in the tooling and the design process. A bit of bent metal isn't going to cost them more than they will make back in advertising from the feature...
